MEXICO CITY.- The Government of Mexico officially nominated Jesús Seade Kuri to serve as Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
This proposal is in succession from the current Director General Roberto Azevado, who will leave office on August 31, 2020.
It is important to highlight the work of Jesus Seade in commercial matters, so here is his profile.
Jesus Seade was born on May 20, 1954 in Mexico City.
In 1969 he obtained a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
He later studied a master's degree in economics at the College of Mexico and a PhD in Economics from the University of Oxford.
He has been an honorary professor at the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom. They are at the University of Hong Kong- Schenzhen and lingnan University.
He has also been director of the Center for Economic Studies of Colmex.
On foreign trade, Jesús Seade was Mexico's ambassador to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), was chief negotiator in the Uruguay Round and was deputy director general of the Uruguay Round. He is the Mexican who has held the highest positions in these organizations.
In his career he excelled as an advisor to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.
Its management has been decisive in the renegotiation of the T-MEC trade agreement.
