Ernie's cause of death was reported as "cardiac complications." He suffered a heart attack back in 2003 and received experimental stem-cell therapy as part of his recovery. His wife, Elaine, and five children, Blake, Eric, Lori, Robyn, and Jason, were with him when he passed.

Lively has been keeping a low profile throughout the coronavirus pandemic, spending lockdown with her husband Ryan Reynolds and her family in New York City. However, the couple still managed to help out while they stayed home. According to Entertainment Tonight Canada, Lively and Reynolds made a $200,000 donation to St. Francis Xavier University's Coady Institute's new initiative, the Circle of Abundance, which works to promote women's voices and leadership. And before the 2020 election, the couple urged voters to get out and cast their ballots.

Ernest Wilson Brown Jr., aka Ernie Lively, was born on Jan. 29, 1947. In 1979, he married talent manager Elaine Lively, with whom he fathered actors Blake and Eric Lively. Ernie also adopted Elaine's three children from her previous marriage. Along with his acting endeavors, Lively also worked as an English professor and served as a lieutenant in Vietnam, returning as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. The actor was also known as a mentor for many budding actors looking to make it in Hollywood.

After serving in the military, Lively took up acting. Some of his earliest work includes roles on shows like The Waltons, The Dukes of Hazzard, and Misfits of Science. The actor would later have roles in other well-known programs such as The X-Files, Seinfeld, Murder, She Wrote, and The West Wing.
