Good morning, North State. Here's what you need to know to start your day on July 12.

Extreme heat brings another flex alert for Monday. California's power grid operator said the extreme heat is increasing strain on energy resources. To avoid rolling blackouts you're asked to conserve energy from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m., set your thermostat to 78 degrees or higher and avoid using major appliances and turn off all unnecessary lights.

Standing at over 89,000 acres, the Beckwourth Fire is the largest wildfire burning in California. Fire officials said it has destroyed about 20 homes. The Beckwourth Complex is made up of the Sugar Fire and the much smaller Dotta Fire. Fire crews brought the Sugar Fire containment to 23% on Monday morning.

The lightning-sparked Lava Fire burning near Mt. Shasta is expected to be fully under control by this afternoon. As of Monday morning, the fire is more than 25,000 acres and containment is at 75%. About 300 firefighters are still working to reinforce firelines and mop up.

The Salt Fire near Lakehead has now burned 12,650 acres and is 85% contained with no growth in the past two days, all evacuation orders and warnings have been lifted. The fire destroyed 41 buildings, 27 of them homes. A local assistance center is in place at the Lakehead Lions Club on Mammoth Dr.

The organizer of the Shasta County Supervisor Recall effort is heading to court. Carlos Zapata will be arraigned for charges of battery and disturbing the peace in a may confrontation with a local YouTuber. Zapata is the founding member of Red, White and Blueprint, which is a group supporting the recall of three Shasta County supervisors. Members of his group said the charges are politically motivated. Zapata is scheduled to appear after 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Redding courthouse.

Glenn County will be distributing water this week and next week to those who need it. On Wednesday, the county said they'll be giving away bottled water from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The bottled water was donated by Amazon to Glenn County with the assistance of Assemblyman James Gallagher. There will also be on-site assistance for those that have a dry well.

The safe space indoor cooling center in Chico is expanding its hours. It's operating at the Faith Lutheran Church, at 667 East First Ave. and will now be open from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. You can bring your pets with you and snacks and water will be available. The center will remain open through July 17.
