CHICAGO – There was energy when he would step in, with a charge going through the air that was felt by those around him.

Fans would certainly have that anticipation as Anthony Rizzo stepped to the plate during his nine-and-a-half seasons with the Cubs. He was a three-time All-Star who was a part of a core that brought five playoff appearances in six seasons and a World Series championship to the franchise in 2016.

Allison Parise might have seen that at a game, but she saw it in a much different place since 2012 as well.

“Anthony was coming down the hall and you would feel the pulse of the unit go up,” said the nurse at Lurie Children’s Hospital, who watched Rizzo inspire a crowd there just as much as any at Wrigley Field.

As a cancer survivor himself, having beaten Hodgkin’s Lymphoma early in his baseball career, Rizzo made it a point to visit children who were dealing with the illness during his time with the Cubs.

“Anthony was a champion in my eyes long before he was ever a World Series champion,” said Parise, who talked about his contributions after he was traded to the Yankees on July 29th.

Having worked with children who were suffering from cancer, Parise said she first began to notice Rizzo visiting shortly after he was traded by the team early in 2012 as one of the first major players acquired by new team president Theo Epstein.

“Next thing I know he’s literally on my unit and I’m like ‘Hey, Anthony Rizzo,'” said Parise of the first time she noticed Rizzo stopping by to greet patients. “He’s such a personable, down-to-earth guy.”

For nearly a decade, Rizzo continued to pay visits to the children at Lurie Children’s Hospital to offer words of encouragement as they dealt with their cancer diagnosis. Through the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation, he would give monetarily to the hospital, including a $3.5 million endowment in 2017 that went to helping families dealing with financial hardships during treatment.

Yet it was the personal interactions that Parise said stood most out to her as Rizzo shared with patients battling cancer his story while also providing encouragement through difficult times.

“Having him at that stature still coming in and acting like the same Anthony who, like I said, was always a champion, but having him come in after the World Series he was still Anthony,” said Parise. “Which I absolutely love about him.”

Larry Hawley had more on Rizzo’s partnership with Lurie Children’s Hospital and his efforts to help patients there on WGN News Now, and you can watch that in the video above.

Rihanna’s A Billionaire: Crowned Richest Female In Music Surpassing Even Kylie Jenner

The Root 04 August, 2021 - 09:42am

Even though Rihanna found her way into many fans’ hearts with her music, the profile explained that most of the money she made actually came from her makeup line: Fenty Beauty, which she owns half of. A large chunk of her wealth also comes from her lingerie brand Savage x Fenty, plus what she’s made from music and acting roles.

The singer’s new billionaire status makes Rihanna wealthier than some of her peers in both the entertainment and cosmetics worlds. With a $1.7 billion valuation, she’s a wealthier musician than Beyoncé Knowles, who is worth an estimated $420 to $500 million, according to ParadeShe’s even worth more than Beyoncé’s husband Jay Z, who Forbes gave an estimated net worth of $1.4 billion. Rihanna’s net worth is even more than Kylie Jenner, who made headlines when she was named the youngest female self-made billionaire with a $1.2 billion net worth in 2020. The Kylie Cosmetics founder has her net worth listed as $700 million in Forbes. The “Umbrella” singer does have a ways to go if she wants to surpass Oprah and become the wealthiest woman in entertainment. The legendary talk show host is worth about $2.7 billion, via Forbes.

While Rihanna fans eagerly await her newest album, Bluestock Advisors consultant Shannon Coyne told Forbes that Rihanna’s work in the fashion space can be admired by all. “She is creating a brand outside of herself. It’s not just about Rihanna,” she said. “Even if you don’t like her music, she’s created a real style in the fashion and beauty space.”

With the announcement that she’s a billionaire, Rihanna certainly has plenty to celebrate. Fans have been patiently waiting for her ninth album, the follow-up to 2016’s ANTI, and she’s also been living her best life with her boyfriend, rapper A$AP Rocky. The couple were seen leaving a New York City studio at the end of July, leaving fans excited for the possibility of new music. The couple seem like they make a great match and have gone on plenty of romantic outings together.

Like with the Cubs, Anthony Rizzo’s contributions to Lurie Children’s Hospital won’t be forgotten

The Lox And Dipset Announce ‘The Rap Superheroes Tour’

uDiscover Music 03 August, 2021 - 06:10pm

The tour kicks off September 16 in Atlanta, Georgia.

During their highly anticipated Verzuz battle, The Lox and The Diplomats (commonly known as Dipset), announced a nationwide tour called The Rap Superheroes Tour, also featuring the hip-hop duo State Property.

The tour kicks off September 16 in Atlanta, Georgia, before hitting cities such as Austin, Chicago, St. Louis, and more. See the full list of dates below.

The battle is one that Jim Jones actually manifested late last year. In December, when asked to choose Dipset’s desired competitor in a Verzuz, he brushed off G-Unit, citing their beef over the years.

“I doubt that will happen. There is no camaraderie there…It would probably be even more aggressive than even the Jeezy and Guwup Verzuz. I wanna wrestle and fight and shit,” he told The Joe Budden Podcast. Instead, Jim chose the other option presented to him — The LOX — and provided a few reasons why he believed they were a much better fit.

“Dipset and The LOX, a lot of camaraderie, a lot of good energy, a lot of energy to bounce off each other,” he explained.

“Cam, Jadakiss, and Styles P literally started the same year to get into this game off of freestyles and things like that. We represent the uptown part of New York City. We represent the culture for New York City. We’ve been pillars in this industry for the past 20 some odd years along with the whole Ruff Ryders enterprise. I think it would be more suitable.”

Round By Round Break Down of The Lox vs. Dipset Verzuz

Parle Magazine 03 August, 2021 - 05:42pm

For young fans:  This is what New York City Hip-Hop sounds like.  The latest Verzuz puts The Lox vs Dipset in a battle between two of Hip-Hop’s biggest groups of all time. Both crews hail from New York City, and have represented for over 20 years in the music business.

The Lox, comprised of Jadakiss, Styles P and Sheek Louch, are from Yonkers and came into the music business under the wings of The Notorious B.I.G. under Bad Boy Records.  They then moved over to the Ruff Ryders came with fellow Yonkers native DMX.  They continue to be one of the only crews in Hip-Hop that can tour as part of two very distinct different labels/brands.

The Lox have released four albums, including the first two albums, their most popular projects, Money, Power & Respect and We Are The Streets.  The fact that Jadakiss was able to have his own solo Verzuz was very telling. All three members have released several solo projects and have hit songs under their belts as individuals as well.

Dipset, aka The Diplomats, includes the members Cam’ron, Jim Jones and Juelz Santana.  Their path to the music business was slightly different, with Cam’ron getting signed to Untertainment/Sony Music back in the mid 90s.  He slowly brought his Harlem team into the music business with him and solo and collectively they found success over the next decade.  At one point the crew was signed to Roc-a-fella Records, working with Jay-z and Kanye West on production, but for the most part they have done it on their own.  There have been several other artists associated with The Diplomats over the years, but the trio has remained the same.

The Diplomats have released 3 albums as a group.  One could make a strong argument that Jim Jones and Juelz Santana have also had better solo careers than Styles P and Sheek Louch respectively.

Like we have done previously with these Verzuz battles, here’s a round by round break down of The Lox vs Dipset Verzuz battle.

You can also watch along live on the thriller app.

So Cam’ron is also on “Banned From TV” so I can’t just give The Lox that track, like Cam’ron wasn’t also part of it!

“Blood Pressure” and “357” were tied.  But “Just Fire” over “Reservoir Dogs” for these purposes.

The latest Verzuz puts Fabolous vs Jadakiss against each other in a battle.  Arguably two of the best lyricists and emcees out of New York, the two have dominated the Hip-Hop scene since they emerged in the late 90s. A couple of years ago they joined forces for their Freddy…

Back where we first started.  The idea for Verzuz came about from a battle of their catalogs between Timbaland and Swizz Beatz.  Not after a year plus of a successful run, with over 20 battles between some legends, the pair of dynamic producers are returning for another battle of their…

If I'm being completely honest, the Snoop Dogg vs DMX Verzuz match-up just didn't feel right to me.  I get the symbolism of Dogg vs Dogg, but that is seemingly the only thing these two have in common. Snoop Dogg is a Hip-Hop legend on every coast, having dominated in…
