It was a career-worst night for Sandy Alcantara, but his teammates rallied to make it interesting.
Clayton Kershaw was not perfect by any means, but given an eight-run cushion to work with, it was very, very difficult for the Marlins to complete a comeback of that magnitude. In six innings of mound work, including a season-high 11 strikeouts, the left-handed ace allowed a three-run, two-out home run off the bat of Adam Duvall to highlight a four-run third for Don Mattingly’s group, but it was too little, too late moving forward.
Give credit to the #Marlins tonight, who did not quit after falling behind in second, 8-0. I have no doubt that Sandy Alcantara will come back stronger than ever in next outing, knowing his eight earned runs were the most he’s given up in his career. It’s baseball, it happens.
The Dodgers hand the ball to reigning NL Cy Young award winner Trevor Bauer on Saturday. Although Mattingly hasn’t announced a Marlins starter, expect to see a lengthy outing from right-hander Jordan Holloway who previously pitched on Monday in Arizona. First pitch will be approximately 9:10 p.m. ET.
