On Friday morning, the Six God interrupted ESPN‘s regularly scheduled SportsCenter program with a cryptic, glitchy commercial to make the announcement. Stylized in the form of a broadcast hack, the stealthy ad featured a piece of cardboard with a clear, handwritten message: “CLB September 3.”

Drake’s reps did not immediately respond to HYPEBEAST’s request for comment on Friday morning.

Earlier this month, Drake confirmed that Certified Lover Boy was finished while stopping by OVO Sound 42’s Fri Yiy Friday show on Sirius XM. “Album’s cooked. Looking forward to delivering it to you,” Drake said during his brief appearance. “I hope everybody in the world is blessed. I hope everybody has their drinks, everyone’s locked in. Good vibes and good energy for this weekend.”

“OVO, we aim for the head, we don’t aim to please. Certified Lover Boy on the way, and that’s for anyone in the way.”

Aside from his album rollout, Drake recently reignited beef with Kanye West with select bars on Trippie Redd’s “Betrayal,” where he raps, “All these fools I’m beefin’ that I barely know // Forty-five, forty-four (Burned out), let it go // Ye ain’t changin’ sh*t for me, it’s set in stone.” Ye, of course, retaliated by quickly posting and deleting the location of Drake’s Toronto, Ontario home.

Stay tuned for updates on Certified Lover Boy.

SportsCenter breaks silence after alleged Drake hack

REVOLT TV 27 August, 2021 - 05:47pm

Today’s (Aug. 27) broadcast was interrupted by a cryptic announcement about the release date for ‘CLB.’

“We want to apologize for any interruptions viewers might have experienced during SportsCenter this morning,” the tweet read. “We had some technical difficulties that have since been resolved.”

Though the news program failed to specify what “interruptions” they were speaking about, fans of Drake and social media users are well aware of what they are referencing. As REVOLT previously reported, the morning show’s typical broadcast was interrupted by the playing of a cryptic video.

In the clip, a hooded figure was spotted holding up a sign that read, “CLB September 3.” Fans attributed the announcement to an alleged hack by Drake, who has long been teasing his Certified Lover Boy project, but the revelation that the release date for Kanye West’s Donda is the same day sparked interesting conversations on Twitter.

“Nigga Kanye West Doing All This At His Listening Shows Just To Sell Under 150k When Drake Only Did A Quick Wwe Return Snippet For CLB & Gonna Sell 200k First Week,” wrote one Drizzy fan.

September 3rd HISTORY will be made. Kanye West Versus Drake in real life !!!” added another person. “The 2 biggest male artist since 2010 will go head to head to see who the top dog is I cant wait!!”

Prior to the chatter surrounding Ye and Drake’s Sept. 3 album release date, tensions between the emcees reignited when Drake mentioned the Chicago emcee on his verse for Trippie Redd’s “Betrayal.” Kanye allegedly posted the rapper’s Toronto address in what many deemed to be his reaction to the song. He has since deleted the post.

"SportsCenter" Issues Statement On Drake Hacking Its Broadcast

HotNewHipHop 27 August, 2021 - 04:45pm

Kanye West is currently touring an album that isn't even out yet, and Drake is hacking ESPN's servers to reveal the Certified Lover Boy release date on SportsCenter. Several months ago, the Hip-Hop community likely never thought it would be here, but here we are nevertheless. As fans await DONDA and Certified Lover Boy, Ye and Drake have both come forward today to reveal that their highly anticipated albums will be releasing on September 3. It was recently reported that Kanye may actually be dropping this weekend, and some have theorized that Drake may have something to do with it.

Earlier today, the Scary Hours 2 artist bombarded the SportsCenter broadcast to mysteriously reveal that he would be dropping Certified Lover Boy next Friday. In a rather villainous display, Drake shared some guerrilla-style footage that eventually showed the words "CLB September 3" written on a scrap of cardboard. Now, hours later, SportsCenter has issued a public statement on what occurred during its show this morning.

"We want to apologize for any interruptions viewers might have experienced during SportsCenter this morning," SportsCenter tweeted this afternoon. Without saying exactly what they were referring to, they simply stated, "We had some technical difficulties that have since been resolved."

Many fans have deduced that the tweet ultimately proves that SportsCenter was in on the whole thing, which poses the question: What other big moves does Drake have planned for the Certified Lover Boy rollout? Check out SportsCenter's tweet below and let us know in the comments how you feel about Drake's ESPN antics.

CLB better be a hit. It's going to take a lot to beat the "Take Care" album no 🧢.

Drake appears to be the sports world's favorite rapper so it makes sense, I guess. If you're announcing your album release date on ESPN I hope it's fire. That would be embarrassing otherwise. I give him credit for the promotion though.

i fuck with this roll out

Drake got a Disney bag? Or is this just Nike hard at work?

I love how y’all tryna group drakes ties with a Canadian sports company with the buzz Kanye’s making. Y’all r Canadian suckers

CLB better be a hit. It's going to take a lot to beat the "Take Care" album no 🧢.

If half the leaks I’ve heard are on it it should be fire. Vital and Not Around are some of my favorites

That's Drake's classic album. Nothing he drops will beat Take Care. It was a combo of the Weeknd and Drake at a very creative time in both their lives.

Drake Might Release New Album Certified Lover Boy Next Week, Cryptic ESPN Promo Suggests

XXLMAG.COM 27 August, 2021 - 10:38am

Drake first announced Certified Lover Boy, his formal Scorpion follow-up, in August 2020 when he also released “Laugh Now Cry Later.” A few months later, he teased a January 2021 release, but the album, of course, did not materialize. Instead, Drake released his Scary Hours 2 EP, featuring three tracks. He later featured on Nicki Minaj’s “Seeing Green,” Brent Faiyaz’s “Wasting Time,” Smiley’s “Over the Top,” and Trippie Redd’s “Betrayal.”

On “Betrayal,” Drake rapped “All these fools I’m beefin’ that I barely know/Forty-five, 44 (Burned out), let it go/Ye ain’t changin’ shit for me, it’s set in stone,” as quoted by Genius. His lyrics appeared to reignite a simmering beef with Kanye West. Notably, the ever-changing iTunes pre-order page for West’s new album Donda lists a September 5 release date.

Last year, Drake dropped his Dark Lane Demo Tapes, a 14-track release featuring “Toosie Slide,” his Future collaboration “Desires,” and more. In 2019, Drake released Care Package, a compilation of tracks originally released between 2010 and 2016. The project brought fan favorites—such as “Girls Love Beyoncé” and “How About Now”—to streaming services for the first time.

Dark Lane Demo Tapes was the first Drake project in 10 years that didn’t debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, ending the streak that began with the release of Thank Me Later in 2010. He made an appearance on Lil Wayne’s Apple Music radio program Young Money Radio shortly after the release of the mixtape to talk about the project, how the COVID-19 pandemic made him reconsider how he wanted to release music, and more.
