The FBI said in a statement that the remains were found near the Spread Creek Dispersed Camping Area in the Bridger-Teton National Forest.

During a Sunday press conference, FBI Supervisory Special Agent Charles Jones offered condolences to those affected and asked everyone to respect the family’s privacy at this time.

A family lawyer also released a statement to FOX News, asking for the family to be allowed to grieve at this time and also thanking authorities for their tireless efforts in finding Petito:

“I am making a personal request to members of the press and news media to refrain from contacting the Schmidt and Petito family,” Richard Benson Stafford said in a statement obtained by FOX. “Due to today’s developments, we are asking the press and news media to have some decorum and sensitivity for Gabby’s family and allow them to grieve. I will be in contact with you when Gabby’s family is ready to make a public statement.”

NewsNation reporter Brian Entin said on Twitter that Petito’s boyfriend’s family also released a statement following the announcement.

“The FBI and our partners extend our heartfelt condolences to Gabby’s family and loved ones,” FBI spokeswoman Courtney Bernal said in a statement. “This is an incredibly difficult time for them, and our thoughts are with them as they mourn the loss of their daughter.”

Authorities are still on the lookout for Brian Laundrie in Florida, who has been identified as a person of interest. Laundrie and Petito had been on a cross-country road trip together prior to Petito’s disappearance.

Laundrie, who returned to his family’s Florida home in the couple’s van alone, was last seen on Tuesday, family members told police.

At this time, the remains found in Wyoming have not been 100% confirmed as Petito’s body. A cause of death is not known.

NORTH PORT, Fla. (WFLA) — The search for Brian Laundrie, 23, continued Sunday in Sarasota County as police and FBI agents followed a lead from Laundrie's parents, who say he left their house Tuesday in hiking gear and hasn't been seen since.

The search first focused on the 200 acres around the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park before spreading to the 25,000-acre Carlton Reserve in Sarasota County. Josh Taylor, public information officer for the North Port Police Department, said Laundrie could be in danger.

Chase Beck was last seen walking in the 1900 block of 9th Avenue North in Bessemer near the KFC.

An FBI agent said the cause of death not yet been determined. Petito and her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie, left in July on a cross-country trek in a converted van to visit national parks in the U.S. West.

McConaughey leads Abbott in Texas poll as O'Rourke inches closer

The Washington Post 19 September, 2021 - 09:31am

Abbott's approval rating has dropped to 45 percent in the aftermath of controversial legislation such as a ban on mask mandates amid the COVID-19 pandemic and a ban on most abortions after six weeks. It's far too early to tell how things will play out in next year's election, but two well-known potential candidates look like they could give Abbott a serious run if they do wind up entering the race.

Actor Matthew McConaughey, who has hinted that he's entertaining the idea (though it's unclear what party, if any, he would represent), led Abbott by nine points in a hypothetical matchup in the new poll, while former Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-Tex.), who ran against Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) for a spot in the upper chamber and later took a shot at the Democratic presidential nomination, cut a previous 12-point head-to-head deficit against Abbott down to five in the survey. Abbott does have a more comfortable lead against Republican primary challengers, however.

The Dallas Morning News/UT-Tyler poll was conducted between Sept. 7-14 among 1,148 registered voters. The margin of error is 2.9 percentage points. Read more at The Dallas Morning News.
