The game based on going outside did just fine during the pandemic

Sensor Tower’s data seems to indicate that the game not only survived the pandemic, but came out stronger. It’s a bit surprising, at least to me, given how few people I know who still play. Sensor Tower cites Niantic’s updates to the game as one of the reasons for the game’s 2020 success, as the company made it more suited to a world where people couldn’t necessarily go for walks or gather in large crowds.

While Niantic hasn’t released its own numbers or reasons for the success, we do know it plans to keep adapting to our new reality. As we move into the latter half of 2021, Niantic says it’s planning on reverting some of the changes it made in response to the pandemic, while also keeping some around and further tweaking the game.

The game doesn’t seem to be losing steam in 2021 — on July 17th and 18th, Niantic will be holding its online Pokémon Go Fest, with some cities having in-person events on the 17th. The event will be music-themed, and admission will cost $5, down from $14.99 in previous years, in honor of the game’s five-year anniversary. The game also recently got a shout-out from Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto in an investor Q&A, with the Mario and Zelda creator saying that he was hooked on playing Pokémon Go with his family.

Pokémon Go Team Go Rocket leaders and boss guide

Polygon 07 July, 2021 - 08:35pm

Find and take down the baddest there is

Team Go Rocket members can be found in hot air balloons flying above you or from glitchy, black PokéStops. Each time you defeat one, you’ll get a Mysterious Component. After you get 6 Mysterious Components, they’ll combine into a Rocket Radar, which allows you to find a random leader. The three leaders are Sierra, Arlo, and Cliff.

Some Timed Research and Team Go Rocket Special Research tasks require you to beat all three leaders. Often, but not always, you’ll be rewarded with a Super Rocket Radar, allowing you to find the boss, Giovanni. Beating Giovanni will net you a Legendary Shadow Pokémon.

The Pokémon teams that the leaders and boss have change fairly frequently, though they’re not super hard to take down. You won’t have to pay too much attention to their teams if you use Pokémon with CP at 2,900 or higher. Ideally, use strong Pokémon with their Community Day moves, like any of the following:

Using powerful Legendary Pokémon you may have picked up from raids, like Mewtwo or Rayquaza, will also help.

Even if you take your strongest Pokémon into battle, be careful about the Pokémon typing. If you because the boss uses attacks that are super effective against your Pokémon, you’ll want to swap out members of your party.

The admins and boss also use their shields, so the first two charge attacks you use will be blocked.
