The Denver Broncos have placed cornerback Ronald Darby on injured reserve to recover from a hamstring injury.
Broncos placing CB Ronald Darby on IR with a hamstring injury that will cause him to miss at least three weeks and will leave him week to week after that, per source. Denver’s first-round pick Patrick Surtain II now is expected to step into the starting lineup.
That means rookie cornerback Patrick Surtain II will be thrust into the starting spot in Week 2. The Broncos first round pick had impressed all through training camp and preseason, but did get beat for a touchdown against the New York Giants on Sunday. The learning curve at the NFL level begins in earnest this week for Surtain.
As for Darby, hamstrings can be tricky to come back from. Since he is out a minimum of 3 weeks that does put his availability right around the average time to return to action from a hamstring injury, but if he aggravates it at all his time missed could be extended. That is a situation we will have to keep an eye on moving forward.
