Halo Infinite New Campaign Gameplay Footage Coming Before Launch

ComicBook.com 21 August, 2021 - 12:39pm

Although Halo Infinite just had a multiplayer technical test a few weeks back, some fans have been eagerly waiting to see more of what the campaign will look like. Developer 343 Industries first showed off footage from the campaign for Infinite back in 2020, but since that time, we have yet to see more of what the story-driven aspect of the first-person shooter will look like. Fortunately, that lack of campaign footage will be changing in the coming months.

In a new update video from 343 Industries, it was confirmed that the studio is planning to reveal more of the campaign from Halo Infinite as the game approaches its launch later this holiday season. 343 said that it knows that fans are eager to see more of what the campaign will have in store and it's very much planning to feed that appetite with more trailers and gameplay showcases in the next few month. For now, though, the studio is said to be knee-deep in "shut down" mode, which is essentially 343's name for the polish and bug fixing stage of development.

"Everybody wants to see campaign, especially campaign gameplay. We will absolutely show campaign gameplay before launch," said 343's creative lead Joseph Staten on this often-asked topic. "But we just need to stay focused on shut down mode. Once we get past that hurdle, we're going to be going after things like gameplay capture and trailers that will all be coming closer to launch."

For now, the biggest question surrounding Halo Infinite comes with when that launch will be. At the time, 343 only continues to say that the latest entry in the series will arrive at some point this holiday season. When it does come about, it will releasing for Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC.

Microsoft and 343 Industries have announced that campaign co-op and Forge mode won’t be available in time for the launch of “Halo Infinite” on PC and Xbox.

Instead, both modes will be added to the game next year and will be among many parts of the game undergoing lengthy testing.

Halo Infinite’s head of creative Joseph Staten tells YouTube that the lack of campaign co-op and Forge were not ready for launch as the team began winding down its development polish:

“Unfortunately, as we focused the team for shutdown and really focused on a quality experience for launch, we made a really tough decision to delay shipping campaign co-op for launch. And, we also made the tough call to delay shipping Forge past launch, as well.”

Campaign co-op is expected to come to Infinite in its second season around three months after launch. Forge will follow in season three around six months after launch.

The game still does not have an actual release date to share beyond the Holiday 2021 timeframe.

Halo Infinite campaign co-op and Forge will be missing at launch

Video Games Chronicle 21 August, 2021 - 09:02am

The news that cooperative campaign play and Forge features would be missing at release was announced during a Halo Infinite development update from 343.

According to head of creative Joseph Staten, the team found more time is needed to complete some of the game's features ahead of release as some are not up to standard.

With the game being a live service, the features can be released once they have been "in the oven" for a bit longer.

"As we focused the team for shutdown and really focused on a quality experience for launch, we made the really tough decision to delay shipping campaign co-op for launch," said Staten. "And, we also made the tough call to delay shipping Forge past launch as well.

"We are going to keep campaign co-op and Forge in the oven for a little bit longer, and then when they are ready, we are going to release them as part of our seasonal roadmap next year."

Staten said campaign co-op will now launch during Season 2, and Forge will arrive during Season 3, with each season lasting around three months.

Another feature also seeing a delay is split-screen multiplayer for PC.

The team is currently addressing things which cropped up during the multiplayer Technical Preview, like bugs and whatnot. Insiders can expect the next multiplayer test soon, and it will feature PvP, 4v4,and Big Team matches (thanks, Neowin). After release, Insiders will also get to test Forge following the core game launch.

Halo Infinite will be released this holiday for PC and Xbox consoles, and 343 says it is close to confirming a set date for launch.
