A source tells PEOPLE Saturday the couple seemed great when they last saw them at the beginning of summer and that there was no indication they were going to break up.
"In the beginning of the summer, Kaley seemed very happy with Karl. They were affectionate and seemed great," says the source.
They add, "The split seems very sudden. It's pretty shocking."

In a statement to PEOPLE, the couple — who tied the knot on June 30, 2018 — said, "Despite a deep love and respect for one another, we have realized that our current paths have taken us in opposite directions."
"We have both shared so much of our journey publicly so while we would prefer to keep this aspect of our personal life private, we wanted to be forthcoming in our truth together. There is no anger or animosity, quite the contrary," Cuoco and Cook continued.
"We have made this decision together through an immense amount of respect and consideration for one another and request that you do the same in understanding that we will not be sharing any additional details or commenting further," the statement concluded.
The following summer, they got married in a ceremony at a horse stable near San Diego, California, with close friends and family in attendance.
In June, the couple celebrated their third wedding anniversary in sweet tributes shared to Instagram.
"I agree @kaleycuoco I am just as amazed it's been been three years, feel like just a flash," Cook added in his own post. "I love you so much and I can't wait for a million more years!!"

The Flight Attendant star, 35, filed the paperwork in the Superior Court of California for the county of Los Angeles on the same day that the pair first announced their separation, Us Weekly confirms.
“Despite a deep love and respect for one another, we have realized that our current paths have taken us in opposite directions,” the Big Bang Theory alum and Cook, 30, confirmed the news of their split via a statement to Us Weekly on Friday. “We have both shared so much of our journey publicly so while we would prefer to keep this aspect of our personal life private, we wanted to be forthcoming in our truth together. There is no anger or animosity, quite the contrary.”
The estranged couple added that they “made this decision together through an immense amount of respect and consideration for one another and request that you do the same in understanding that we will not be sharing any additional details or commenting further.”
Months before announcing their split, the pair each posted a sentimental tribute to the other via Instagram in June for their third wedding anniversary.
“NY, June 30th, 2016 is the year we met. 2 years to the day before we got married and now 3 years married!” Cuoco captioned a black-and-white photo with Cook at the time. “Why have you stayed married to me for so long?! I’m sincerely impressed @mrtankcook lol I love you oh so much you have no idea …happy anniversary!!!”
Cook, for his part, shared his own message for the Golden Globe nominee. “I agree @kaleycuoco I am just as amazed it’s been … three years, feel like just a flash,” he wrote, alongside a playful photo of Cuoco. “I love you so much and I can’t wait for a million more years!!”
Two weeks later, the pair adopted a dog together. “When you know you know!” the Yes, Norman Productions founder posted via Instagram in July. “Welcome to the family, Larry! He’s a 9 year old ginormous mastiff chunk mutt of love and we are obsessed. Thank you @pawsforlifek9 & @rita_earl_blackwell for the perfect addition to our lives. #seniorsunday #adoptdontshop #rescuedog (also thank you to his previous fosters for taking amazing care of him!)”

Cuoco, who was previously married to tennis player Ryan Sweeting from 2013 to 2016, previously opened up about her unconventional marriage with Cook after they first moved in together in 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“We’ve been married for a year and a half, been together for almost four years and this quarantine has forced us to actually move in together,” she explained during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in April 2020. “It’s been great for our relationship, and we like each other we realized, which is even better.”

Spotlight Hour events are a bit like smaller versions of Community Day events. One Pokemon features increased spawns for the short event window and there is usually some additional bonus or feature in place during the event to offer some extra motivation to get out and put in some work for 60 minutes. These short Pokemon GO events are usually fairly popular, but each week's buzz is greatly impacted by which Pokemon is getting the spotlight treatment.
The September Spotlight Hour events feature some pretty interesting choices. Most of these offerings won’t have a major impact on the PvE or PvP meta game, so they may not necessarily draw the biggest crowds. That said, the chance to score bonus Stardust, XP, and Candy may still be all the motivation some players need.
In the month of September, Pokémon Spotlight Hour will take place every Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time, and each will spotlight a different Pokémon and a special bonus!
Tuesday, September 7, 2021: Spoink will be in the spotlight, and you’ll earn twice the Stardust for catching Pokémon.
Tuesday, September 14, 2021: Baltoy will be in the spotlight, and you’ll earn twice the XP for catching Pokémon.
Tuesday, September 21, 2021: Skitty will be in the spotlight, and you’ll earn twice the Candy for catching Pokémon.
Tuesday, September 28, 2021: Alolan Meowth will be in the spotlight, and you’ll earn twice the Candy for transferring Pokémon.
The first event is likely to draw a big crowd thanks to the Stardust bonus, despite whether players are interested in Spoink or not. Double Stardust is one of the game's most popular rewards, so this would be a great time for players to dive in and stock up on the highly valuable resource.
In the coming weeks, we should learn more about what other events will be arriving during the early days of the Season of Mischief. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
