He Built Her the Mansion They Couldn't Afford: Kanye West Reconstructs Childhood Home for Chicago Donda Listening Party

Yahoo Lifestyle 25 August, 2021 - 02:00am

To recap, the first listening party took place in July at Atlanta’s Mercedes Benz Stadium, which was “almost as big as his ego,” followed by another in early August. Now he’s going home to pay homage to his mother Donda in the best way he knows how—with a listening party in Chicago’s Soldier Field on Thursday, August 26.

Hype for the new event started when West wiped his Instagram feed of all of its content and posted a photo of his childhood home with absolutely no caption. It amassed millions of likes, tens of thousands of comments and absolutely no response from the rapper himself. Since then he has begun reconstructing the childhood home he shared with his mother home in the center of Chicago’s Soldier Field. Photos began circulating the internet of a large crew working on putting together the house atop a large stage.

— West Sub Ever (@WestSubEver) August 23, 2021

West and his mother lived in the house until she sold it in 2003. After starting a nonprofit, watching the house go through foreclosure and seeing the infrastructure collapse, West was able to buy his childhood home back in 2019 and began renovating it, the New York Post reports. “While the home continues renovations, Kanye still appears to be working on the album,” the article states.

It’s not all that surprising that he is now building an entire house in the center of Soldier Field, seeing as he moved into the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta to ostensibly finish his album. The Instagram photo of his living quarters there has since been deleted; however, Page Six stated he hadn’t “left the facility since hosting his sold-out listening party at the stadium.”

This will now be the third listening party West has hosted and still. No. Album. Though once again, it’s been reported the album will be “officially released” after the show.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

Kanye West Petitions to Legally Change Name

Yahoo Entertainment 25 August, 2021 - 02:00am

Kanye West has petitioned to legally change his name to “YE,” according to legal documents obtained by Variety.

In order for it to be official, a California judge must sign off, and, in many cases, the name change must be published in several newspapers.

In the court documents, West wrote that the name change was for “personal reasons” but gave no other explanation.

On Aug. 26, West will host the third stadium-sized listening party for his upcoming album “Donda” at Soldier Field in his hometown of Chicago. According to a report in the New York Post, West is rebuilding his Chicago childhood home in the middle of the football stadium. The article includes photos of the house, or a facsimile, being constructed on the center of the field.

With an original release date set in 2020, then on July 23, 2021 and again on Aug. 6, 2021, it is still unclear when “Donda” will come out. The past few days have seen West and Drake, whose upcoming album “Certified Lover Boy” has also been delayed, taking cryptic jabs at each other on social media. This has industry sources buzzing about a potential album-release battle, similar to the one West shared with 50 Cent in 2007, when the pair stacked up sales for their respective records “Graduation” and “Curtis.”

No proof of vax, negative COVID test required for Kanye’s ‘Donda’ event at Soldier Field

Chicago Sun-Times 24 August, 2021 - 05:09pm

Per Live Nation, point-of-entry COVID protocols will be left up to individual artists.

Unlike the point-of-entry mandates in place at Lollapalooza in July, which required proof of vaccination or negative COVID test results, attendees at “The Donda Album Experience,” which kicks off at 9 p.m. Thursday, will not be required to show proof of either to gain entry to Soldier Field. Seating capacity is being reduced to 38,000, however, instead of the usual 63,000 “sold-out” tier associated with Chicago Bears games.

The decision to not require proof of vaccination or negative test results for the Kanye event is in line with Live Nation’s announcement earlier this month that leaves entry mitigations up to the individual artists at all of its U.S. events and tours.

Masks will be optional for all outdoor areas at Soldier Field, though “recommended for unvaccinated individuals in crowded outdoor settings,” according to a statement from Chicago Park District communications director Michele Lemons.

Per Soldier Field safety protocols, masks will be required for all public indoor spaces in accordance with CDC and Chicago Department of Public Health guidelines, and those areas include include the United Club, Miller Lite Midway, Pro Shop, North Garage, bathrooms, elevators and enclosed hallways.

“Kanye West’s performance is one of many examples that show that Chicago can be open and safe at the same time,” Lemons’ statement went on to say. “We have worked with Soldier Field on COVID-19 safety protocols, as we have other venues including Wrigley and Guaranteed Rate fields, and feel this event can be safely held with the proper mitigation efforts in place. ... and we know that transmission is less likely at outdoor events.”
