VMAs 2021: Will Kanye West Make Surprise Appearance?

PopCulture.com 12 September, 2021 - 09:22pm

Kanye West has been on a high since the release of his highly-anticipated tenth studio album DONDA. In addition to several promotional shows that have lauded West much praise, the YEEZY creator continues shining in the fashion world. With the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards airing live tonight (Sunday, Sept. 12), there's much speculation that West will make a special appearance.

Radar Online reports that West is predicted to make a surprise appearance at tonight's show. Other major performances include  Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Normani, and The Foo Fighters. This year's ceremony will be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and is hosted by rapper Doja Cat.

According to several sources, the 44-year-old rapper has been added as a last-minute performer in promotion for DONDA. The news comes after his estranged wife Kim Kardashian made headlines for her all-Black dominatrix style Balenciaga ensemble at New York City Fashion Week. An insider from MTV reportedly stated, "With the Kardashians in town for New York Fashion Week and the Met Gala, we hear they [Kim and Kourtney] may be making an appearance as well, especially since Kourtney's beau, Travis Barker, is performing with good friend Machine Gun Kelly."

West has had many iconic moments at the VMA's but the most infamous is his 2009 interruption of Taylor Swift's Video of the Year Award when West touted, "Beyoncé had one of the greatest videos of all time." If he does perform this year, it'll surely be a showstopper.

MGK vs Conor Wasn't the 1st! Relive Celeb Feuds That Started at the VMAs

Us Weekly 12 September, 2021 - 08:44pm

Fans will never forget the moment Kanye West stormed the stage seeking justice for Beyoncé after Taylor Swift won the Best Female Video award in September 2009. “Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’ma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time,” West exclaimed.

Swift attempted to keep her cool as the Yeezy designer left the stage, but would go on to use the dramatic incident as inspiration for more than one song. West initially apologized for the “rude” display during a 2009 interview with Jay Leno.

“I’m just dealing with the fact that I hurt someone or took anything away from a talented artist or from anyone, because I only wanted to help people,” the Grammy winner said at the time, noting that he “immediately knew” he’d made a mistake.

The Pennsylvania native, for her part, reflected on the response from others at the awards show. “I’m not going to say I wasn’t rattled by it. I had to perform live five minutes later, so I had to get myself back to the place where I could perform,” she said on The View in September 2009. “All the other artists who showed me love in the hours following that, I just never imagined there were that many people out there looking out for me.”

Tension continued to grow between the musicians for years — and things became even messier in 2016 when Kim Kardashian stepped in with receipts about her then-husband’s song “Famous.” In a statement addressing the drama at the time, the “Bad Blood” singer claimed, “Where is the video of Kanye telling me he was going to call me ‘that bitch’ in his song? It doesn’t exist because it never happened. You don’t get to control someone’s emotional response to being called ‘that bitch’ in front of the entire world.”

Kardashian, however, claimed otherwise. “She totally approved that,” the reality star told GQ in June 2016 before she leaked videos of West and Swift’s conversation. “She totally knew that that was coming out. She wanted to all of a sudden act like she didn’t.”

Three years later, Kardashian asserted on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen that she was “over” the drama between Swift and the “Stronger” rapper, from whom she split in February 2021.

In 2015, the VMAs were responsible for sparking another highly publicized feud, this time between Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus. After the Last Song actress, who was hosting the awards that year, dissed the “Starships” rapper in an interview with The New York Times, Minaj put her on blast.

“And now, back to this bitch that had a lot to say about me the other day in the press,” she said on the VMAs stage during the live broadcast. “Miley, what’s good?”

The Other Woman star didn’t seem to be over the tiff in June 2019, when she appeared to reference Cyrus during an episode of her “Queen Radio” show.

“Perdue chickens can never talk s–t about queens,” Minaj said of the Black Mirror actress at the time. “She disrespected me in a magazine article for no reason. … Now you coming out with pink wigs, all you bitches wanna be Nicki.”

Kim Kardashian continued to be her own best advertisement as she promoted her latest and greatest SKIMS products in a Sunday Instagram post.

The 40-year-old reality star slipped her famous curves into a cotton ribbed bodysuit in a new photoshoot, while teasing the piece's versatility.

The multi-hyphenate's post comes after she made the trip from Hidden Hills to New York City with four members of her famous family as she gears up for the Met Gala on September 13.

Skim-berly: Kim Kardashian slipped her famous curves into a ribbed SKIMS bodysuit to promote the 'all-in-one outfit' and its versatility on Sunday

Kim looked flawless in the shoot as she showed off her go-to glam and breathy pout with her hair down.

The ribbed bodysuit in color Kyanite hugged her slim waist and fell seamlessly on her body, hitting just above the thigh.

'This all-in-one outfit is soft and comfortable enough for lounging around the house and cute enough for everyday wear. Throw this on with anything from sweats to jeans—and prepare to wear it again and again,' the brand prompted.

Proving that business never stops for the mogul, she took time to promote some of her favorite shape wear products despite being in NYC.

Surprise appearance? Page Six revealed that Kanye is set to make a surprise appearance at the MTV VMA's on Sunday evening and an MTV source said that Kim 'may be making an appearance as well'

Just hours after she touched down in a custom BDSM-inspired leather look from Balenciaga, she hit the town with BFF Lala Anthony on September 11.

And as it was revealed that estranged husband Kanye West is set to make a surprise appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday evening, it has been rumored that Kim may also be in attendance.

A source told Page Six that West was 'added on as a secret, last minute performer' for the show which is taking place at Barclays Center in Brooklyn to promote Donda.

An MTV source added: 'With the Kardashians in town for New York Fashion Week and the Met Gala, we hear they [Kim and Kourtney] may be making an appearance as well, especially since Kourtney's beau, Travis Barker, is performing with good friend Machine Gun Kelly.'

Edgy: Kim has been wearing exclusively Balenciaga for weeks making it highly likely she is set to wear a daring custom outfit from the designer Demna Gvasalia to the Met Gala on September 13

And though the guest list for the Met Gala is not publicly released ahead of the event, Kim is undoubtedly set to attend the event as she's been a fixture since 2013, though most appearances have been alongside West.

Based on Kim's seemingly exclusive preference for Balenciaga in recent weeks, it seems likely that the brand's designer Demna Gvaslia will be dressing her for the event.

Additionally, Gvaslia was tapped by west to art direct all three of Kanye's Donda listening events and fashioned both their looks and the gown worn by Kim at the Chicago show.

Kim Kardashian Turns Heads in Full Leather Face Mask in New York City

Entertainment Tonight 12 September, 2021 - 03:21pm

Kardashian, 40, paired her black leather trench coat and thigh-high black leather boots with a matching mask that covered her whole head. The statement piece featured zippers at the eyes and a hole in the back for Kardashian's ponytail, and she was somehow able to find her way into her hotel.

The mom of four, who is expected to sport another head-turning look at the Met Gala on Monday, tagged Balenciaga designer Demna Gvasalia while sharing photos of the ensemble on her Instagram.

Kardashian's statement look is similar to another all-black ensemble she wore last month at a listening event for Kanye West's album Donda.

That Balenciaga bodysuit included a full face mask with unzipped eye and mouth holes and an opening at the top for her lengthy braid.

As for where Kardashian and West stand, the two have remained on good terms since she filed for divorce from back in February. And a source told ET last month that West is trying to "reprove himself" and win back Kardashian.

"Kim and Kanye have a deep love for each other and many amazing memories and it's difficult to just let that all go," ET's source said. "Kim's main focus and concern are her children and doing what is best for them and their family."

According to the source, that means the reality star is "considering her options" with Kanye, but keeping her kids top of mind.
