"After auditioning for this film when i was 18 just about to turn 19, to now finishing filming through a pandemic when I turned 21 ... we have finally made it," Bailey wrote. "I cannot wait for time to speed up so you all can watch this film because it was made with so much love (plus blood sweat and tears)."

Bailey sings in the duo Chloe x Halle with her older sister Chloe Bailey, and also stars in the sitcom Grown-ish, a spinoff of the ABC show Black-ish.

"After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence and substance -- plus a glorious singing voice -- all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role," director Rob Marshall said when Bailey was cast.

Halle Bailey Wraps Filming "The Little Mermaid": "We Have Finally Made It"

HotNewHipHop 12 July, 2021 - 11:14pm

“We've always learned to just keep our heads up no matter the situation," she said of the criticism last year. "No matter what anybody has to say about you...just keep pushing.”

Earlier today (July 12), Halle Bailey returned to Instagram to announced that filming has wrapped and while there, she dropped off a lengthy caption regarding the entire process. "I feel so grateful to have experienced this film in all of its glory," she wrote. "It has been the toughest experience being away from everything and everyone i’ve ever known, to feeling self doubt/ loneliness, but also feeling such freedom and perseverance as i’ve reached the end."

Halle added that "this experience has made me so much stronger" before praising her castmates by name.  She called them "masters of their craft" who "are so welcoming and open to little old me..as well as to the rest of the beautiful cast and crew." Just like her fans, Halle can't wait to see the end result.

The First Look At The Live-Action Little Mermaid Is Absolutely Stunning

Looper 12 July, 2021 - 04:57pm

Deadline reported way back in 2016 that a live-action version of "The Little Mermaid" was in the works, but it took a few more years to get things going, with Halle Bailey cast in the lead role back in 2019 (via Variety). Alongside Bailey, the stars of the film include Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula the Sea Witch and Javier Bardem as King Triton. In addition, Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, and Awkwafina are taking on the voice roles of Sebastian, Flounder, and Scuttle, respectively.

With such a stellar cast, as well as new music from "Hamilton" creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, "The Little Mermaid" is easily one of the most anticipated films on Disney's roster. Luckily for us, we just got a new look at the mermaid herself coming up for air on a familiar shore.

In her post, Bailey expressed her feelings upon the end of filming. She wrote, "i feel so grateful to have experienced this film in all of its glory..it has been the toughest experience being away from everything and everyone i've ever known, to feeling self doubt/ loneliness, but also feeling such freedom and perseverance as i've reached the end. this experience has made me so much stronger than i ever thought i could be."

Bailey also conveyed her utter excitement for the film to come out, and for fans to get to see what she and the whole team created. She concluded, "i cannot wait for time to speed up so you all can watch this film because it was made with so much love (plus blood sweat and tears) lol thank you sardinia for a wonderful ending!!! xoxo."

Disney Releases First Image From the Live-Action Little Mermaid Remake - IGN

IGN 12 July, 2021 - 02:53pm

The image shows Bailey laying on the ocean shore, partially submerged in water, wearing what appears to be a mermaid suit on the lower half of her body. Bailey’s photo shows off the coastline of Sardinia in Italy where filming took place.

It’s been a long road for Bailey and production on The Little Mermaid. The actress was cast back in mid-2019, just as she was about to turn 19. But production was partially delayed throughout the COVID-19 pandemic before resuming in the summer.

“It has been the toughest experience being away from everything and everyone I’ve ever known, to feeling self doubt/loneliness, but also feeling such freedom and perseverance as I’ve reached the end,” Bailey wrote. “This experience has made me so much stronger than I ever thought I could be.”

The Little Mermaid also stars Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Awkwafina as Scuttle, Melissa McCarthy as the evil Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Hamilton’s Daveed Diggs, and Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric. Disney has announced The Little Mermaid will feature new songs (and original) from composer Alan Menken, plus lyrics from Lin-Manuel Miranda.

A release date for the live-action Little Mermaid remains a mystery, however.

"and just like that..that’s a wrap," Bailey wrote on Instagram. "after auditioning for this film when i was 18 just about to turn 19 , to now finishing filming through a pandemic when i turned 21 ..we have finally made it... i feel so grateful to have experienced this film in all of its glory..it has been the toughest experience being away from everything and everyone i’ve ever known, to feeling self doubt/ loneliness, but also feeling such freedom and perseverance as i’ve reached the end. this experience has made me so much stronger than i ever thought i could be."

Bailey went on to express gratitude for her co-stars, including Jonah Haur-King (Prince Eric), Jacob Tremblay (Flounder), Melissa McCarthy (Ursula), Daveed Diggs (Sebastian) and more.

A live-action remake of the 1989 animated classic The Little Mermaid entered early development in 2016, and Bailey was cast in the lead role three years later. While the announcement was met with controversy for casting a person of color as a mermaid depicted as white in the animated film, Bailey largely ignored the backlash. "I feel like I'm dreaming and I'm just grateful and I don't pay attention to the negativity," the actor explained. "I just feel like, you know, this role is something bigger than me, and greater, and it's gonna be beautiful. I'm just so excited to be a part of it, and, yeah."

Halle Bailey Teases ‘Little Mermaid’ Remake With Stunning Ocean Sunset (Photo)

Yahoo Entertainment 12 July, 2021 - 02:21pm

It’s not a first look photo exactly, but it’s a stunning shot from afar of Bailey lounging on the shore in front of a glorious ocean sunset. And if you look closely, you can see her legs tucked just underneath the water as though she’s masking a mermaid tail.

“And just like that..that’s a wrap,” Bailey wrote in a tweet on Monday. “After auditioning for this film when i was 18 just about to turn 19, to now finishing filming through a pandemic when i turned 21, we have finally made it…I feel so grateful to have experienced this film in all of its glory.”

Bailey was cast to play Ariel in “The Little Mermaid” remake way back in 2019, but the film was one of many that was forced to shut down production before it could get going. It has since been filming throughout the pandemic in London.

“The Little Mermaid” is the live-action take on Disney’s 1989 animated musical classic. In addition to Bailey, it also stars Javier Bardem as King Triton, Melissa McCarthy as the wicked Ursula, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Awkwafina as Scuttle, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder and Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric.

Rob Marshall is directing “The Little Mermaid” with a script by Jane Goldman. Disney hasn’t set a release date for the film just yet, but it’s expected to arrive potentially by 2022.
