Mathew George, co-host of the famous podcast 'She Rates Dogs', died in an accident in Beverly Hills

On Saturday, July 17, Okland tweeted, "I would rather you guys hear this from me than a news article. Mat was killed in a hit and run last night. I don’t really have any other words right now. I wish I could contact everybody who knows him personally but the news is already out and I just can’t do it right now."

Last month, we reported the death of 'Gone Girl' star Lisa Banes, who died after a car accident in New York. We also reported the death of character actor Ned Beatty, Black power icon Clarence Williams III, and musician and 'School of Rock' actor Kevin Clark, who died under similar circumstances.

It was reported that George was killed by a hit-and-run driver in a white BMW while he was walking southbound on Croft Avenue in the Beverly Grove community of Los Angeles. The car was going east on Beverly Boulevard at 2.20 am on Saturday, July 17, when it hit him. George was pronounced dead at the scene.

In March 2021, George recounted his coming out to his family on Twitter. "My coming out story: I texted the family group chat that I’m gay while I was blacked out, got ignored by everyone and then watched as every single person responded when my sister sent a picture of the enchiladas she made 4 hours later."

Even though George shared his coming uut story with his fans and friends, he kept details about his partner and his love life very private.

The podcast 'She Rates Dogs' was based on a social media page started by Okland, which discussed “the journey and the mishaps of dating men” in every episode. The podcast’s Instagram page biography reads, “The Dogs are ur exes.” According to LGBTQ Nation, George was a comedian, media personality and entertainer who completed his graduation from Arizona State University in 2017 after studying biology. He previously worked at OrthoArizona and was a creator that contributed content via the digital app Fanhouse. In 2000, after the podcast started, George talked about his decision to quit medicine and focus on entertainment in an interview with 'Shoutout Arizona' in December 2020. “I knew it was risky but I also knew that if I didn’t try I would never stop wondering what could’ve been,” he said. “So I did it. I packed up my apartment and left my friends in Arizona to move to LA…. with this being the biggest risk I’ve ever taken, I was understandably a nervous wreck. 5 months later I can honestly say that I am SO happy that I did this,” he concluded.

Spectrum News 1 18 July, 2021 - 03:13pm

LOS ANGELES (CNS) — Fans are mourning the death of a popular podcast host who was killed by a vehicle driven by a hit-and-run driver near the Beverly Center.

Mat George, 26, co-hosted "She Rates Dogs," which focused on relationship advice and dating stories.

"I would rather you guys (hear) this from me than a news article. Mat was killed in a hit and run last night," his co-host Michaela Okland tweeted. "I don't really have any other words right now. I wish I could contact everybody who knows him personally but the news is already out and I just can't do it right now."

Friend and comedian Abby Govindan wrote on social media that George "was the funniest person I know hands down, funnier than most career comedians. I told him that every time we talked. His career barely got started and I was so excited to watch him succeed. I'm at a loss for words. Rest In Peace."

George was struck at around 2:20 a.m. Saturday on Beverly Boulevard, and police are asking the public's help for any information which might lead to identifying that motorist.

A white BMW was going eastbound in the number one lane of Beverly Boulevard when it struck the Arizona native, who was walking southbound on Croft Avenue in an unmarked crosswalk, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

The impact caused George to move in an eastbound direction and strike the roadway. The motorist driving the BMW continued east, failing to stop. Paramedics pronounced George dead at the scene. He was later identified by the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

LAPD West Traffic Division detectives urged anyone with information regarding the death to call them at 213-473-0234 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
