Megan Fox: I Stopped Drinking Alcohol After Making 'Belligerent' Comments at 2009 Golden Globes

PEOPLE 22 July, 2021 - 03:02pm

In a recent interview with Who What Wear, the 35-year-old actress reflected on different iconic ensembles she has rocked over the years, pausing after arriving at her stunning gold 2009 Globes gown to address remarks she made after having alcohol that night.

"I was sat at a table with Blake Lively and all three Jonas Brothers," said Fox. "At the Golden Globes, they always put those giant bottles of Moët champagne on the table — I went through multiple glasses of that."

"Now I don't drink, and this is why: I was belligerent and said a bunch of s--- I shouldn't have said on the red carpet after that," the Midnight in the Switchgrass star went on. "I think I got in a lot of trouble for whatever I said on the red carpet at this event."

"I don't remember why, but I know I did. You can look that up," she added.

In a clip from Fox's 2009 red-carpet interview, obtained by TMZ, the actress said in part that she believes looks like "a doppelgänger for Alan Alda" before adding, "I'm a man."

"I'm so painfully insecure. I'm on the verge of vomiting right now," she told Giuliana Rancic. "I'm so horrified that I'm here."

Fox also told Rancic, 46, "I really want [Salma Hayek's] boobs," which she called "amazing" and "perfect," and touched on why then-boyfriend Brian Austin Green wasn't in attendance with her at the event. (The actor, 48, confirmed their split last year after almost 10 years of marriage.)

"He doesn't want to be my date. He's a man — he has an ego," she said of Green. "I think he's probably working on music; I don't think he cares [about watching the show]."

Fox also said "I basically starve myself for a month" to achieve her "22-inch waist," before quickly adding, "I'm kidding. I did a lot of Pilates. An immense amount of Pilates."

While the Jennifer's Body actress told Esquire back in 2013 that "I can't stand pills. I don't like drinking. I don't like feeling out of control," she did recently open up about drinking  ayahuasca with boyfriend Machine Gun Kelly while the couple was on vacation.

"We went to Costa Rica to do ayahuasca in a proper setting with indigenous people," Fox said on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last week, referring to the psychoactive tea that is used as a spiritual medicine and can cause hallucinations. "So I was thinking it was like glamping, like it was gonna be some kind of five-star experience."

"But you get there and you really are in the middle of the jungle, and you don't get to eat after 1 p.m. You have to walk a very far distance to get your water and you can't shower because they're in a drought," she continued. "... [There was] nothing glamourous about it and it's all a part of making you vulnerable so you sort of surrender to the experience."

When it came to the actual ceremony and drinking the ayahuasca, Fox said the experience went on for three nights and was "incredibly intense."

"Everybody's journey is different, but on the second night, I went to Hell for eternity," she recalled. "Just knowing it's eternity is torture in itself, because there's no beginning, middle or end. So you have a real ego death."

Megan Fox recently opened up about an incident back in 2009 that caused her to reevaluate her relationship with alcohol.

The 35-year-old "Till Death" star admitted she overindulged at the 2009 Golden Globe awards because she was feeling insecure.

"I hate wearing my hair back like this," Fox admitted. "I cannot believe I allowed this to happen. I have a huge, round forehead so I hate wearing my hair slicked back like that."

Inside, she said she sat at a table with the Jonas Brothers and Blake Lively and the champagne was flowing. "I went through multiple glasses of that," Fox said.

"Now I don’t drink, and this is why," Fox recalled. "I was belligerent and said a bunch of s–t I shouldn’t have said on the red carpet after that. I’m sure I got in a lot of trouble for what I said … I don’t remember why but I know that I did."

On the red carpet at the time she told Giuliana Rancic, "I'm so painfully insecure. I'm on the verge of vomiting right now. I'm so horrified that I'm here."

Fox also commented about the absence of her then-boyfriend Brian Austin Green. "He doesn't want to be my date. He's a man — he has an ego," she said of her now estranged husband. "I think he's probably working on music; I don't think he cares [about watching the show]."

Green and Fox ended their marriage in early 2020 after almost ten years of marriage. They share three kids together: three children: Bodhi, 7, Noah, 8, and Journey, 4.

A few months later, Fox went public with her relationship with musician Machine Gun Kelly (real name Colson Baker).

At the event, she was seated at a table with the Jonas Brothers and Blake Lively.

“At the Golden Globes they always put those giant bottles of Moet champagne on the table. I went through multiple glasses of that. Now I don’t drink and this is why. I was belligerent. Said a bunch of sh-t I shouldn’t have said on the red carpet after that,” Megan told WWD in a new interview.

She added, “I got in a lot of trouble for what I said on the red carpet at that event.”

The interview Megan may be referring to is her interview with E! host Giuliana Rancic.

Among the things she said on the red carpet were comparing herself to actor Alan Alda.

She also said, “I am so horrified that I am here, and embarrassed. I’m scared.”

She commented on why she attended solo without her then partner Brian Austin Green, saying, “Brian doesn’t want to be here. He doesn’t want to be my date. He’s a man. He has an ego. I think he’s probably working on music. I don’t think he cares.”

Why Megan Fox stopped drinking after the 2009 Golden Globes

The Week Magazine 22 July, 2021 - 03:02pm

The Golden Globes are infamous as the year's booziest awards show, but for Megan Fox, that once got a bit out of hand.

Fox explained in an interview with Who What Wear that she stopped drinking after making "belligerent" remarks on the red carpet at the 2009 Golden Globes following "multiple" glasses of champagne.

"Now I don't drink, and this is why," she said. "I was belligerent and said a bunch of s--t I shouldn't have said on the red carpet after that. I think I got in a lot trouble for whatever I said on the red carpet at this event. I don't remember why, but I know that I did."

Fox at the time declared herself "a tranny" and "a man" in a red carpet interview, while admitting she was "on the verge of vomiting right now" and "so horrified that I'm here and embarrassed and scared." She also said that her boyfriend at the time, Brian Austin Green, didn't "want to be my date" to the show because he "has an ego," and when asked about her diet and exercise regimen, she responded, "I basically starve myself for a month. I'm kidding."

Prior to these remarks, Fox apparently got a bit tipsy alongside Blake Lively and the Jonas Brothers.

"I was sat at a table with Blake Lively and all three Jonas Brothers," she said. "At the Golden Globes, they always put those giant bottles of Moët champagne on the table. I went through multiple glasses of that."

The actress previously explained that she doesn't like to drink or do drugs because they make her feel "out of control" — and, apparently, give some highly embarrassing red carpet interviews.

Megan Fox Says She Stopped Drinking After 'Belligerent' Golden Globes Incident

elle.com 22 July, 2021 - 08:44am

'Now I don't drink and this is why'

Speaking to Who What Wear about the awards ceremony, the Transformers actor recalled how she was seated at a table with Blake Lively and the Jonas Brothers, and remembers that there were large bottles of champagne on the table in front of them.

'I went through multiple glasses of that and now I don't drink and this is why,' Fox revealed.

'I was belligerent and said a bunch of sh*t on the red carpet that I shouldn't have said after that. I think I got into a lot of trouble for whatever I said on the red carpet at that event, I don't remember why but I know I did and you can look that up.'

She also said her partner at the time Brian Austin Green didn't want to join her for the event because 'he doesn't want to be my date, he's a man, he has an ego' and suggested he was at home 'working on music, I don't think he cares'.

Fox and Green - who have three children together - announced their separation after a decade of marriage in 2020. She has since been dating rapper Machine Gun Kelly.

Megan Fox Recalls 'Belligerent' Night At Golden Globes That Led To Sobriety

The Blast 22 July, 2021 - 12:01am

Megan Fox might be in love with a Rockstar by the name of Machine Gun Kelly ‘MGK’, but that doesn’t mean she is living the hard partying Rockstar lifestyle.

The actress recently opened up about a booze-filled night that led her to get sober.

During an appearance on “WhoWhatWear,” Megan took a trip down fashion memory lane for their “Would You Wear It Now” segment to dish on some of her best and worst looks.

What she was revealed was pretty interesting.

On the night of the 2009 Golden Globe Awards, the “Transformers” actress wore a gorgeous gold embellished globe from Ralph Lauren. Her hair was pulled back with her gold and emerald green dangling earrings on display.

This happened to be her first time attending Golden Globes

“I hate wearing my hair back like this. I cannot believe I allowed this to happen, because I have a huge round forehead so I hate wearing my hair slicked back like that,” she admitted.

“I was sat a table with Blake Lively and all three Jonas brothers,” she said. “At the Golden Globes they always put those giant bottles of Moét Champagne on the tables. I went through multiple glasses of that. Now I don’t drink and this is why. I was belligerent and said a bunch of shit on the red carpet I shouldn’t have said after that.”

She added that she got into a lot of trouble for what she said on the red carpet.

E!’s Guiliana Rancic told Megan she was “one of the hottest women in the business.”

The actress replied, “Because I’m pretty sure I’m a doppelgänger for Alan Alda.”

Megan reportedly then used an offensive term that can refer to either someone who is transgender or a cross-dresser.

“I’m a man,” she continued. “I’m so painfully insecure. I’m on the verge of vomiting right now. I’m so horrified that I’m here, and I’m embarrassed. I’m scared.”

She has come a long way since then and her sobriety has even rubbed off on those closest to her.

Back in December, MGK credited Megan for helping him get sober.

Around that time, he had checked himself into rehab for substance abuse and thanked Megan for helping him find sobriety. He made the revelation during a conversation with Dave Franco in Interview Magazine.

Machine Gun Kelly revealed that his “drug of choice” used to be Adderall. The singer is doing much better these days and is focused on working on his art, rather than using the vices that he thought would lead to his art.

“Adderall was a huge thing for me for a long time,” Machine Gun Kelly said. “And I went from orally taking it to then snorting it.”

Megan Fox Opens Up About Why She Stopped Drinking Alcohol

Glamour 21 July, 2021 - 01:32pm

In a video for Who What Wear, the Jennifer's Body star recalled the night of the 2009 Golden Globes, explaining, “I was sat at a table with Blake Lively and all three Jonas Brothers…At the Golden Globes, they always put those giant bottles of Moët champagne on the table—I went through multiple glasses of that.” The Globes are notorious for encouraging, let's say, a loosening up, being the only major ceremony that includes dinner and, therefore, drinks. Remember when Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston ran out of bubbly, so they borrowed from Bey and Jay-Z's personal stash? Yep, the Globes.

After drinking that night, Fox says she remembers hitting the red carpet and making some not-so-great comments. “Now I don't drink, and this is why: I was belligerent and said a bunch of shit I shouldn't have said on the red carpet after that…I think I got in a lot of trouble for whatever I said on the red carpet at this event. I don't remember why, but I know I did,” she explained.

TMZ has footage from an interview Megan Fox did with Giuliana Rancic at the 2009 Golden Globes. In it, she makes comments about her own insecurities, self-deprecating jabs about her then-boyfriend Brian Austin Green not being in attendance, and even, weirdly, jokes about her waistline, saying she starved herself for a month. (She then backtracks and claims she does a lot of Pilates.) Prior to this, she calls herself “a man” and “a doppelgänger for Alan Alda." Fox is clearly nervous in the interview, telling Rancic at one point, ”I'm on the verge of vomiting. I'm so horrified that I'm here and embarrassed and scared."
