Centre County Adds 43 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 3907 New Positives

Pennsylvania added 3,907 positives to increase the statewide total to 1,479,364.

The county also had 115 new negative test results for a total of 80,806. Statewide there were 9,369 negatives to bring the total to 5,560,081.

DOH has not updates statewide COVID-19 deaths since Friday. According to the most recent registry numbers, Pennsylvania has had a total of 29,907 deaths attributed to the virus, including 237 in Centre County.

According to DOH’s hospital preparedness dashboard, 28 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, two fewer than Mount Nittany Medical Center reported on Friday. Two are in intensive care and two are on ventilators.

Statewide, Pennsylvania has 2,899 COVID-19 inpatients, 30 fewer than Saturday, with 679 in intensive care [+5] and 364 on ventilators [-15]. Hospitalizations are at their highest level since Feb. 8.

An estimated 90% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation that considers a case as recovered if it has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of the first positive test or onset of symptoms.

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update on Saturday.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

DOH did not update vaccination data on Sunday. As of the last update on Friday morning, 83,692 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated and 6,449 are partially covered. Third doses have been administered to 3,936 county residents.

Among the county’s entire population, 63.1% have received at least one dose and 53.9% are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 70.3% have received at least one dose and 60.1% are fully vaccinated

Statewide, 69.4% of adults and 57.8% of the total population are fully vaccinated. Pennsylvania is fifth in the nation for total doses administered, according the CDC.

Vaccination appointments for ages 12 and older are available through Centre Volunteers in MedicineMount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.

EU Industry Starts to Cut Gas Demand Amid Soaring Prices

Europe’s industrial sector has started to cut demand for natural gas, as record prices have made the fuel prohibitive for many consumers. 

Average consumption to-date in October is 12% lower than its pre-pandemic level, according to data compiled by Paris-based consultancy Engie EnergyScan. Gas consumption had already started to fall in September, down 5% from the 2019 level.
