UFC fighter Conor McGregor clashed with rapper-actor Machine Gun Kelly on the red carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday. TMZ reports the MMA star asked MGK for a photo and when he declined, they had words that allegedly “escalated into him pushing Conor,” who may have stumbled back and thrown his drink. Photos and videos show McGregor being held back as he appeared to attempt to punch Kelly. McGregor downplayed it afterwards, telling ET: “I only fight real fighters... I certainly don’t fight little vanilla boy rappers. I don’t even know the guy. I don’t know anything about him, except that he’s with Megan Fox.” Kelly (aka Colson Baker), who won a VMA for best alternative video, did not comment.

Initially mum on the issue, McGregor elaborated on his thoughts outside of his New York hotel Monday. While it is still unclear exactly what started the altercation, McGregor explained that he has no ill-will toward the rapper-turned-rocker as things currently stand.

“I’ll tell you what happened,” McGregor told Adam’s Apple. “I’ll tell you what it is. I’m free here in New York City, you know what I mean? I’m back in New York. I got to go to the Barclays Center. I got to present an award. I was just going to have a good time, you know what I mean? That’s it. All love. It’s all good. Come to the next fight. Come watch me perform any time. I’ll perform, no problem. Everyone is more than welcome to come to my fights, to the shows.”

McGregor reiterated he had no prior relationship with MGK, though he was familiar with the musician’s significant other, actress and model Megan Fox. Both MGK and Fox frequently attend UFC events, including McGregor’s loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July.

“(There’s) no beef,” McGregor said. “I don’t even know the guy. I don’t even know him. Who is he? You’re telling me he’s been at the fights. Megan has been at the fights (for) years. Megan has been at the fights (for) years. I know Megan. I don’t know the guy. There’s no problem. Come to the fights. There’s no problem.”

McGregor is currently rehabbing from surgery to repair a broken leg suffered in the trilogy fight vs. Poirier. He is back on his feet, though he used a cane to move around during his VMA presentation Sunday. There is no clear timeline for his return.

As for MGK, the 31-year-old won “Best Alternative Video” at the 2021 VMAs – which marked the second straight year he took home the award. Kelly’s debut rock album, “Tickets to My Downfall”, hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in October 2020. He, along with Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, are expected to drop their second album, “Born with Horns” in 2021.

Conor McGregor opens as huge favorite for "celebrity boxing" match against Machine Gun Kelly

BJPENN.COM 14 September, 2021 - 12:05pm

UFC superstar Conor McGregor opened as a huge favorite for a potential “celebrity boxing” match against rapper Machine Gun Kelly.

The online sportsbook Bovada released the opening odds for a McGregor vs. MGK fight after the two got into an altercation at the MTV VMAs. According to the opening odds, McGregor is a -5000 betting favorite to defeat MGK in a “celebrity boxing match.” Machine Gun Kelly, on the other hand, is a +1000 betting underdog. Check out the odds below.

Who would win in a fight: (Bovada)

— Odds Shark (@OddsShark) September 14, 2021

McGregor at -5000 indicates that you would need to bet $5000 just to win $100. On the other hand, a $100 bet on MGK at +1000 odds means you would take home a cool $1000.

The odds of a McGregor vs. Machine Gun Kelly fight actually happening are very low, for a number of reasons, not least the which being that MGK is not a professional fighter. While other celebrities such as Jake Paul have taken to the world of combat sports in recent years and have done well, it still seems like a bit of a stretch to suggest that MGK would even have a puncher’s chance in a fight against McGregor. There is a reason the bookies opened up McGregor as such a huge favorite for a potential fight against MGK, after all.

Having said that, considering the way that combat sports are going with so many celebrities jumping into the world of boxing, it’s certainly possible that we could see McGregor head back into the world of boxing and take on some of these big names in the future. If that’s the case, though, one would think that McGregor would pursue a fight with someone such as Paul who is a proven draw and a proven fighter, rather than against someone like MGK.

Who would your money be on in a potential celebrity boxing match between Conor McGregor and Machine Gun Kelly?
