New Jack passed away following a heart attack in North Carolina. He lived in NC for years. New Jack’s wife personally informed PW Insider about his passing.

One of the most controversial wrestlers of his day, New Jack was known for his hardcore style. You also never knew what he was going to do next. After his career in the ring wrapped up he remained active on social media.

New Jack’s name was inspired by the classic New Jack City film. He carried that gritty realism with him through everything that he did. Fans all over are mourning the loss of this unique character today.

New Jack was a part of many companies prior to Smoky Mountain Wrestling. From there he made his way to ECW where he rose to his highest level of fame.

New Jack never made it big in WWE, but that’s not what he wanted either. He blazed his own path that many pro wrestlers are still walking on to this day. In his later life, he was known for his amazing Cameo videos where he would often threaten fans with weapons in hilarious fashion.

He was also a focal point in Dark Side Of The Ring season 2 episode 3 where they devoted an entire episode to him. You can check that out below.

Our thoughts are with New Jacks’ family, friends, and fans at this time.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.

New Jack was always good to me. He told me that since Jack Victory liked me, he’d put up with me.

We used to do these crazy 8-mans in ECW. Jack would always be last and I’d get goosebumps when that music hit. Then pray I wasn’t getting the crutch that night! Thank you Jack.💔

Just landed in Baltimore and heard the news of new jack. I just seen him at the airport last Sunday walking with his face mask that said new jack and he stopped and we chatted for about 45 mins. Never take a day for granted

I didn’t share a ton of locker rooms with New Jack, but when I did it was never dull. I’ll always remember the first time I met him in CA. Let’s just say it was… eventful. Rest well, Jack. Godspeed. 🙏

Legend goes – @BookItGabe wanted to book New Jack as a manager to build to him and I having a confrontation.

And the Dragon Gate guys had reservations. We thought we’d be able to charge $100 a head to locker room for me and New Jack.

Scariest guy I ever met. Rest in Power. https://t.co/RFqel6BYmb

When New Jack strummed the guitar then hit someone with it…me and my brother used to play a game, where we'd find random things around the house, use them for whatever their function was for 3 seconds, then hit each other in the head with it 😆 https://t.co/5szqh1mfp0

When I produced Mauro Ranallo’s radio show, hands down the most insane interview he conducted was with New Jack.

Whether you knew him as New Jack, Jerome Young or “Denzel’s best friend”, he had a charisma few possessed.

New Jack passes away at 58 due to heart attack

Figure Four Online 14 May, 2021 - 10:20pm

New Jack -- one of the more memorable figures in pro wrestling and the focus of an episode of Dark Side of The Ring -- passed away Friday at the age of 58 due to a heart attack.

PW Insider was the first to report the news via his wife, Jennifer. He was living in North Carolina at the time of his death.

Born Jerome Young in Greensboro, North Carolina, New Jack rose to prominence as one half of The Gangstas with Mustafa Saed. After a one-year run in Smokey Mountain Wrestling, he and Saed found themselves in ECW where they fit right in with the hardcore style and attitude of the promotion. He and Saed won their Tag Team titles two times and he also held them one time with John Kronus of The Eliminators.

Even after Saed left, New Jack stayed with ECW through their end in 2001. He was involved in the infamous "Mass Transit Incident" documented in season two of Dark Side where he bladed Eric Kulas (aka Mass Transit), an inexperienced 17-year-old wrestler. Kulas bled so much due to the cut that he required hospitalization and 50 stitches. New Jack was eventually acquitted on aggravated assault charges and a lawsuit against he and ECW failed in court.

Outside a short retirement, New Jack worked on the indies from the end of ECW through 2021, notably working for TNA, XPW and Combat Zone Wrestling among others. During that time, he was involved in other controversial incidents in matches with Vic Grimes and Gypsy Joe, documented on the Dark Side episode.

His final in-ring action was in April 2021 in a tag team match in Tampa, Florida.

ECW's New Jack, Jerome Young, Dies at 58

ComicBook.com 14 May, 2021 - 06:50pm

Jerome Young, otherwise known by the name "New Jack" in ring, has died at the age of 58. According to a report from Mike Johnson as PWInsider.com, Young has passed following a heart attack in his home of North Carolinam, as Johnson was informed by Young's wife Jennifer. Young's work as New Jack began with the United States Wrestling Association, and brought him through multiple promotions until his debut with Extreme Championship Wrestling back in 1995 as part of The Gangstas. Young was seen as one of the more controversial figures in wrestling history, but never once held anything back in terms of the actual performance.

Young is seen as one of the most controversial figures in wrestling overall, but that controversy also fueled much of his success with ECW and beyond as he held many Tag Team Championships with the promotion. This was due to the fact that Young often had his life literally on the line with his dives off of high places and more. There's no denying that New Jack remains one of the most memorable figures of that era.

Young's work as New Jack has even broken outside of the wrestling world as his life and career were once the focus of an episode in Vice's Dark Side of the Ring documentary series. It was here that fans got some more details (from Young's perspective) on many moments he had been involved with such as the Mass Transit Incident back in 1996. Not only that, but his reach went even further thanks to using Ice Cube and Dr. Dre's "Natural Born Killaz" as his theme during his time with ECW.

Regardless of all of that, Young made his statement with the wrestling world at large with being a performer that quite literally put his own body through massive harm in order to give the audience the best show possible. Testing many new limits, and setting safety guidelines for other performers in years to come through his actions, Young will be etched into the history of wrestling for many fans.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to Jerome Young's family, friends and loved ones along with all of the fans who have followed New Jack through the years.

New Jack passes away at 58 years of age

Jerome Young, known as New Jack to the professional wrestling world, died on Friday according to multiple reports. He was 58 years old. According to PWI Insider who confirmed with Jones’s wife, he died via heart attack in North Carolina where they lived.

New Jack may be remembered as one of the most controversial individuals in professional wrestling. He was best known during his run in Extreme Championship Wrestling during the late 1990s where he was a multiple-time tag team champion with Mustafa and John Kronus. He remained active in professional wrestling, recently having matches as late as April of 2021, with others occurring in 2019.

Jack will be remembered for some of the most brutal matches to behold. He could be found putting opponents through tables, throwing them off high ledges, and doing so with a level of disdain that was unheard of. His matches would begin as he would come out to the ring with a shopping cart full of weapons, even stabbing one opponent during a match. The popular documentary series, Dark Side of the Ring covered his career during season two and it was one of the more popular episodes of that season. He was also featured in another well-known pro wrestling document, Beyond the Mat in 1999.
