The E3 hype is finally dying down and although we saw some incredible reveals at this year’s event, there was one notable absentee. This comes as no surprise to the majority of gamers but Sony was not in attendance at E3 2021, once again.
Over the last few years, PlayStation has been handling its own Summer events, showcasing the best upcoming titles in State of Play presentations. We tend to get individual State of Play presentations for big releases too, and recently we were treated to a record-breaking Horizon Forbidden West reveal.
But Sony’s biggest event of the year is coming up, and we’re already hearing what’s to come in PlayStation’s State of Play 2021.
Although Sony is yet to reveal an official release date for the PlayStation State of Play 2021, we do have some information to go off. A recent leak from Resetera’s Navtra reveals that the upcoming showcase is dropping “in a couple more weeks.”
Back in May, we also saw a 4Chan leak tease at a Sony event for the end of June. However, the latest rumors suggest that the PlayStation event will take place on July 8.
We’re sure to hear more about the event’s exact release window soon, so stay tuned for more details. Meanwhile, it looks as though Sony is reviving the PlayStation Experience PSX trademark in preparation for its Summer showcase.
One of the biggest leaks for PlayStation’s State of Play 2021 is already here, with the reveal of Ghost of Ikishima. According to reliable leaker Shpeshal_Nick, popular PlayStation IP Ghost of Tsushima is getting a standalone expansion that takes place in Ikishima.
The title is said to act as a mini-sequel to the 2020 title, in a similar way to Spider-Man’s spin-off, Miles Morales. It’s currently unclear as to whether or not the game will release on PS4, PS5, or as a cross-gen title.
Ghosts of Ikishima. An Expandalone type game. Aiming for 2021. Not sure how so many seemed to find out so quick.
However, if it turns up at PlayStation’s State of Play event, we can see a 2021 release date in the game’s future.
One of the biggest upcoming PlayStation games on our minds at the moment, God of War Ragnarok will also allegedly be at the event. The above leaker is also revealing that our first God of War gameplay will come courtesy of the upcoming State of Play.
We recently had some big news about the upcoming title, that some gamers are finding disappointing. It seems that God of War is being delayed already – and the PlayStation exclusive will be cross-gen at release.
I’m being told we’ll see our first gameplay of the new God of War at Sony’s show too. Will be exciting to see.
If you haven’t played through Kratos’ most recent adventures, maybe hold off on a purchase just yet. After all, fans believe that God of War may be free very soon!
It’s only been a few weeks since we learned that there are over 25 first-party PS5 games in development right now. With that statistic in mind, we’re almost certain to see some big reveals at PlayStation’s State of Play.
What’s more, over half of the upcoming projects are entirely new IPs for Sony. This ties in with past claims from Sony Boss Jim Ryan regarding the PS5 having “more exclusives than ever before.”
Shpeshal_Nick teases that he knows of at least one big surprise waiting for fans at the event, and we’re certain there’s more to come. We could definitely hazard a guess at a few reveals already, based on past leaks and rumors.
For example, we’re still yet to get an official reveal for The Last of Us’ PS5 remaster, or the new Uncharted project.
In the aforementioned 4Chan leak, we also heard that the PlayStation showcase would reveal more about the new PSVR 2! And we’ve already got a new look at the PSVR 2 release date before the official reveal.
The PlayStation’s State of Play 2021 is lacking official confirmation at this point in time. But, if it’s coming, Sony will likely be releasing more information very soon!
Stay tuned for more details as they come.

Sony has not yet shown any indication that it will hold its next PlayStation State of Play very soon, but leaks and rumors about the event are rife online with one of them claiming that the gaming showcase is about to launch the official gameplay trailer of the next "God Of War" title.
Reliable industry insider Shpeshal_Nick recently shared on Twitter that the gameplay trailer of the next "God Of War" title would debut at rumored PlayStation State of Play 2021. He tweeted, "I’m being told we’ll see our first gameplay of the new God of War at Sony’s show too. Will be exciting to see." Unfortunately, that's the only information the insider shared about the game or the event.
Other games anticipated to be featured at the PlayStation State of Play 2021 includes, "Death Stranding: Director's Cut," and "Ghost of Ikishima." Some industry watchers believe "Horizon Forbidden West," "Spider-Man 2" and "Deathloop" would be featured in the event as well. Sony also mentioned earlier that it has more than 25 first-party PS5 titles in development at the moment and some of these games might be announced at the upcoming event.
Sony Interactive Entertainment President Jim Ryan previously said that PS5 will have more exclusives than the PlayStation 4 ever has. Apparently, over half of the upcoming projects of Sony are totally new IPs. And, one of these titles could be the big surprise that one insider teased about.
In a separate tweet, insider Shpeshal_Nick also teased about one big surprise at the rumored event. The insider mentioned through a tweet, "I’m not sure how much is gonna leak from Sony’s show. I know there’s one big surprise that hasn’t yet and hopefully for those who don’t like to be spoiled, it stays that way."
As for when is the rumored event is going to happen, several leaks offered only one release date. The notable leaker who goes by the username QuimSix revealed that the next PlayStation State of Play could be scheduled as early as July 8. French site JeuxVideo also alluded to July 8 as the date of Sony's next gaming event.
It is worth noting that while these details about the next PlayStation State of Play are interesting, these are not official. Fans should therefore temper their expectations and take this information as highly speculative at this stage.
