Does New Pokémon Snap Have Hidden Shiny Pokémon?

Screen Rant 06 May, 2021 - 06:16am

Shiny Pokémon are a variant of Pokémon that are differently colored than their normal appearances. The first introduction to the concept was in Generation 2 when players encountered the Red Gyarados at the Lake of Rage. Shiny Pokémon have since become a mainstay in the franchise itself with each game offering ways to hunt or breed Shiny Pokémon as well as methods to increase the odds of encountering one. No matter what method is used, however, the likelihood of encountering a Shiny in New Pokémon Snap will remain the same for now.

New Pokémon Snap follows the footsteps of its predecessor as players travel across the Lental Region, helping Professor Mirror get to the bottom of the Illumina phenomenon as players fill out their Photodex to note the wildlife in the region. Through the adventure, players will see a variety of different Pokémon as well as Pokémon in different forms and shades. Despite this, the Pokémon photography adventure has seemingly left Shiny Pokémon for the main games.

While it is currently unfortunate that New Pokémon Snap lacks Shiny Pokémon at launch, there is a chance that the reserved data could be filled in with Shiny variants in a future update. The game itself is filled with plenty of Pokémon for players to photograph in their natural habitats, enjoying the Pokémon world for its wildlife and scenery as a break from the battles of the franchise's main series. The absence of Shiny Pokémon is still a notable omission in the game, yet New Pokémon Snap's various features, online functionality, and replayability will likely keep players hooked to their cameras to see the world through a new lens.
