We already knew that Princess Diana's brother, Charles Spencer, is a big history buff. The 9th Earl Spencer has published a number of titles that analyze British history, one of which just became a #1 bestseller on Amazon. And when it comes to his family history, the royal is just as diligent about searching for facts.

A couple months ago, Spencer revealed how his ancestors' connections to the royal family go much further back than when the late Princess of Wales married Prince Charles. In fact, the earl found an unearthed snapshot, where his grandfather was seen showing Queen Elizabeth's grandmother, Queen Mary, around Sulgrave Manor.

But that's not all. Now, it looks like Spencer has discovered even more connections between the two bloodlines. The earl shared a photo of three of his family members, with a caption that said, “My grandfather, great aunt and great uncle - Jack, Lavinia and Cecil Spencer - setting off for a fancy dress party in 1902.”

The 9th Earl Spencer revealed a special connection to the royal family, saying, “Lavinia married a local aristocrat, and served the late Queen Mother as a Lady In Waiting, when the Queen Mother was Duchess of York: she and Lavinia were childhood friends.”

He went on to further explain the history of the photographed members, saying, “Lavinia’s son Lukie played cricket for England a couple of times. She was a chain smoker, and died in her mid-50s. Cecil (who, like me, was born on 20 May) won a chestful of medals as a Motor Torpedo Boat captain in World War 1, and died aged 33 after being thrown from his polo pony.”

Spencer also disclosed how he came across such a rare photograph, writing, “I’ve today bought this trio’s baby brother George’s diary, written between 1918-20, and this is one of the photographs of his siblings that I found in the back part of it. This photograph was taken at Dallington House, near @althorphouse.”

We love learning more and more about the connections between these two families.

Prince Charles Planned a Secret Dinner With Prince Harry When He Was in London for the Diana Statue Unveiling

Yahoo Entertainment 11 July, 2021 - 06:34pm

A source told the Daily Mail, “Charles had planned a one-on-one dinner with Harry during his son’s trip back to Britain earlier this month.” We’re curious as to whether that dinner was to tell Harry to stop all of his public criticism of the royals or if it was to try to truly work through their issues. According to the same source, Charles “intended to travel back to London to thrash things out with Harry, following the fallout from the explosive interview the Duke and wife Meghan gave to Oprah Winfrey.” So the question is, did the dinner actually happen?

Prince Charles and Prince Harry Reportedly Planned a Secret Dinner Meeting During Harry's Last Visit

MarieClaire.com 11 July, 2021 - 06:34pm

According to the Daily Mail, a royal source says the estranged father and son made plans to have dinner together one-on-one when Harry was back home in the United Kingdom for a ceremony to unveil a memorial statue in honor of his late mother, Princess Diana.

Although Charles was in Scotland when Harry and his brother, Prince William, unveiled the statue in London, the Daily Mail report suggests he had planned to travel back to London to get some face time with his youngest son and to begin the process of working through their issues, some of which Harry discussed publicly during his and Meghan Markle's sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey this spring. Charles, at least, was not said to be looking forward to having those hard conversations.

"A nervous Charles was said to be 'dreading' the dinner—presumably in case he made some faux pas which could be misconstrued and repeated to the Duchess of Sussex back home in California," according to the Daily Mail report.

There's no word about how the secretive dinner went—or if it actually happened, for that matter. We'll all just have to wait and see how things progress between Harry and the rest of the royal family, but, as the Mail points out, just the fact that plans like these are being made is a move in the right direction.

Princess Diana's brother Charles Spencer shares family photo of grandfather and siblings as children

Daily Mail 11 July, 2021 - 06:34pm

By Nicole Conner For Mailonline

Princess Diana's brother Charles Spencer has shared a sweet throwback photograph of his grandfather and his siblings as children - and royal fans have gone wild over his great aunt's striking resemblance to his sister, the late Princess of Wales.

Charles, Earl Spencer, 57, took to Instagram yesterday evening to share a black and white snap of his grandfather Jack Spencer standing next to his sister Lavinia and brother, Cecil in front of a large doorway.

The photo, which was taken in 1902, showed the trio stood hand-in-hand before they headed to a fancy dress party.

But it was Lavinia who donned a white frock and was stood inbetween the two boys who drew the most attention due to her resemblance to a young Princess Diana.

'Don't you find that Diana as a child looked like great-aunt Lavinia?' wrote one, while a second commented: 'Gorgeous! I think Diana at a similar age looked like your great aunt.'

Prince William shunned Prince Harry's attempt to reconnect according to body expert

Express 11 July, 2021 - 06:34pm

Royal experts Molly Mulshine and Joe Drake from US weekly reflected on the meeting of Prince Harry and Prince William at the Princess Diana statue unveiling. The pair spoke to body language expert Blanca Cobb who argued that Prince William shunned his brother's attempts to reconnect. She noted that Prince William did not reciprocate the gesture to open up by Prince Harry by the way he was standing.

"Or anything unusual in the way Prince Harry and Prince William were carrying themselves?"

Ms Cobb replied: "There was one time where Prince Harry was on the right of his brother.

"If you look at their feet, the feet can really tell you a lot.

"Things like what they are feeling in the moment.

"So when Harry would turn his feet to angle towards his brother, his brother didn't respond by turning to Harry.

"So what that indicates is Prince William was more stoic, he was less engaging with his brother.

"In my opinion, I think Harry was trying to make attempts to engage."

She said: "If we take out the royal expert and just see two siblings.

"We would expect the unveiling of their mother, who they both loved tremendously, there would be some type of emotion.

"You would expect them to look to each other for some type of support.

"During the ceremony, Prince Harry looked over to William, what is going on, some non-verbals there.

"Afterwards there was no connection between the two.

"You would anticipate that there would be some sort of communication, even non-verbal, between siblings and it wasn't there.

"From that perspective, you get the idea that something isn't right.

Prince Charles still 'deeply ashamed' of leaked intimate phone call with Camilla - expert

Daily Star 11 July, 2021 - 06:34pm

Prince Charles remains "deeply ashamed" of the leaked intimate call between him and his then-mistress Camilla Parker-Bowles, a royal expert has claimed.

A statue of Princess Diana, commissioned by his two sons Prince Harry and Prince William, was unveiled last week but Charles raised eyebrows when he chose not to attend.

It is believed the Prince of Wales stayed in Scotland throughout Harry's visit, scuppering any chances of the estranged family being reunited, the Mirror reports.

He may have wanted to avoid overshadowing the occasion by reminding the public of his chaotic marriage with the late Princess of Wales.

One of the bombshells which hit the headlines as their marriage fell apart was dubbed 'Camillagate'.

This was a transcript of a bedtime conversation between Charles and his then-mistress Camilla.

It was recorded in 1989 but not released until January 1993 - a month after the heir and Diana split in 1992.

The phone call exposed the intimate relationship between the couple, who married in 2005, as Camilla said: “I can’t start the week without you.”

Charles replied: “I fill up your tank.”

They joked about “desperately” wanting to be together “all the time" amid some crude jokes, while arranging where and when they can next see each other.

They signed off the phone call by confirming how they love one another, and Charles even told Camilla: “Your great achievement is to love me.”

She replied: “I’d suffer anything for you. That’s love. It’s the strength of love.”

When published, the tape sent shock waves through royal spheres — especially as both were married at the time of the conversation.

It also triggered Camilla’s divorce from Andrew Parker Bowles because it made his position as the Duchess of Cornwall’s husband untenable although all three remained friends.

Royal biographer, and an acquaintance of Charles, Howard Hodgson explained in his biography of the Prince of Wales that “even today the episode troubles the Prince”.

Mr Hodgson claimed: “He knows that people not sympathetic to him or the monarchy will recall it at the time of his coronation and at all other meaningful moments in his life.

“He remains deeply ashamed of the embarrassment that he caused his mother, deeply sorry for the pain it caused both his and Camilla’s children.”

Diana is said to have called the recording “sick”, despite being caught out in a similarly sticky situation with her own alleged phone call to James Gilbey, a childhood friend.

Published the year before ‘Camillagate’, a tape of a woman — thought to be Diana — exchanging affectionate terms with Mr Gilbey stunned royal watchers.

He repeatedly called the Princess of Wales ‘Squidgy’ and ‘Squidge’ during the phone call, meaning the phone call was soon dubbed ‘Squidgygate’.

The conversation was recorded on New Year’s Eve in 1989, and the pair can be heard planning to meet.

The Princess of Wales said her husband “makes my life real, real torture”, and explained how she felt “really sad and empty” at times.

Although such events took place three decades ago, the public still feel strongly about the breakdown of the Wales' marriage, as seen in the response to Netflix's latest series of 'The Crown', which retold the story of their relationship.

Diana and Charles finalised their divorce in 1996, and are thought to have become more amicable towards one another in the final year of her life.

The Prince of Wales maintained his relationship with Camilla and gradually integrated her into his public life.

They married in 2005, and she is currently known as the Duchess of Cornwall, having taken her husband’s secondary title out of respect for Diana.

Prince Charles ‘planned one-on-one dinner’ with son Harry when he returned to the UK – but was ‘dreading’ i...

PRINCE Charles planned a one-on-one dinner with his son Harry - but was "dreading" it in case he said the wrong thing, it has been claimed.

The Duke of Sussex returned to the UK from his LA home for the unveiling of Princess Diana's memorial statue this month.

🔵 Read our Royal Family live blog for the latest updates

It is just the second time Harry has returned to the UK since he quit the Royal Family - the first visit seeing the duke attend his grandfather Prince Philip's funeral.

While the 36-year-old seemed in good spirits for his July visit - seen smiling with brother William - it has been reported tensions still remain between Harry and his family.

The Sun previously revealed his dad Charles would be in Scotland for the unveiling and would not see his son.

And The Daily Mail reported the father and son had planned to meet with a "one-on-one" dinner.

It was claimed the future king, 72, had planned to fly back from Scotland to see his son and thrash things out after Harry's string of explosive claims about the Royal Family.

However, it is unclear if the meeting did occur.

Instead, it has been claimed Charles was "dreading" the dinner - potentially over fears the meeting could be misconstrued.

Harry made the flying visit to London this month but was not accompanied by wife Meghan Markle who stayed in LA with their son Archie and newborn baby girl Lilibet.

The couple have made their home in the US after dramatically quitting the Royal Family soon after marrying.

And they have since made a string of explosive comments about life with the Royals.

Harry was particularly critical of Charles - accusing him of making him "suffer".

In the doc with Oprah - The Me You Can't See - the Duke of Sussex said: "My father used to say to me when I was younger, he used to say to both William and I, 'Well, it was like that for me so it’s going to be like that for you.'

"That doesn’t make sense. Just because you suffered, that doesn’t mean your kids have to suffer. Actually quite the opposite.

"If you suffered, do everything you can to make sure that whatever negative experiences you had, you can make it right for your kids."

It was just one candid interview from the Sussexes, who also sat down with Oprah to speak about their decision to quit the Firm.

Harry spoke about trying to get help from his family during this difficult time when his wife was "struggling" while she was pregnant with their son Archie.

"I thought my family would help, but every single ask, request, warning, whatever, it is just got met with total silence, total neglect," he said.

However, their baby girl is yet to meet the Royal Family in person.

However, Kate Middleton said she was looking forward to meeting her niece after the news.

Kate and Prince William given choice to 'move into' Clarence House when Charles is King

Daily Express 11 July, 2021 - 01:01am

Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William currently live at Kensington Palace with their three children, George, Charlotte and Louis. The royal couple also have a holiday home in Norflk called Anmer Hall. Royal expert Marelen Koenig has discussed if the Cambridges would move to Clarence House if the Queen dies.

"Only using it for formal moments. He just lives down the street at Clarence House.

"I see William and Catherine staying at Kensington Palace for a while and even if Charles did move into Buckingham Palace, there's a possibility the Cambridges would move into Clarence House.

"But these days everything is so easily accessible."

Further changes to the monarchy could also include Kate not becoming Queen consort if Camilla does not receive the title before her.

On the topic of whether the Duchess of Cornwall would receive the Queen title when Prince Charles becomes King, Ms Koenig said it would be a "terrible precedent" if she was only a princess.

She said: "There's no law, it is a tradition that the wife of the King is the Queen.

"I find it personally ridiculous. I think it would sort a terrible precedent for example if Camilla is Princess Consort then why should Catherine be Queen consort?

"There's a very good reason for that in the case of Camilla that makes it possible that she will be present at The Accession Council when Charles is proclaimed King.

"Why shouldn't she be Queen? There's no legislation needed, it's just tradition.

"She has done an amazing job taking on different charities and patronages.

"Why should she just be treated as his equal? I have no problems with that and I think that's how it should be.

"He's not the first King in history to have a second wife."

TALK OF THE TOWN: Charles 'planned one-on-one dinner with Harry'

Daily Mail 10 July, 2021 - 06:59pm

By Charlotte Griffiths for The Mail on Sunday

Prince Harry was happy to reconnect with his old pals during a 'lads' lunch' earlier this year – but mystery surrounds a secret summit he was due to have with his father to rebuild their strained relationship.

A source close to the Prince of Wales says Charles had planned a one-on-one dinner with Harry during his son's trip back to Britain earlier this month, when Harry unveiled a statue of his late mother, Diana.

I'm told Charles – who was reportedly in Scotland while the ceremony took place at Kensington Palace – intended to travel back to London to thrash things out with Harry, following the fallout from the explosive interview the Duke and wife Meghan gave to Oprah Winfrey

A nervous Charles was said to be 'dreading' the dinner – presumably in case he made some faux pas which could be misconstrued and repeated to the Duchess of Sussex back home in California.

But it remains unclear whether the dinner actually went ahead as planned, and an aide for Charles would not be drawn on the matter last night.

However, the suggestion that the pair were willing to forge a plan to meet suggests at least a little thawing in relations between Harry and the rest of the Royal Family.

Cressida Bonas was always clever enough not to let the cat out of the bag when she started dating Prince Harry. Now she's not letting the dog out of the papoose!

I spotted actress Cressie in Notting Hill last week with her beloved dachshund puppy Budgie Bear poking her nose out of her handbag.

I have been chronicling how Cressie, 32, who is now married to Harry Wentworth-Stanley, has fallen head over heels for the pup.

When she got her last month she said: 'She's a brown ball of love and cosiness, has the kindest of eyes, is brave as a lion, and we love her too much already.'

I hear of problems beneath the surface as Buckingham Palace reopens its gardens.

The Queen has always encouraged birds and wildlife, but nature’s delicate balance has gone awry… and herons have gobbled up all the fish in the ponds, leaving none for visitors to admire.

‘One day we hope to reintroduce fish but for now the herons rule,’ says my source.

Something tells me that if Prince Philip were still alive, he’d have taken a shotgun to them!

A £100million divorce has not deterred advertising tycoon Sir Martin Sorrell from finding love again.

Literary agent Caroline Michel has opened up about her relationship with Sir Martin, 76, who is said to be so smitten that he could even make her his third wife.

The pair were described as 'close friends' last year, and in April this year they were spotted dining together.

Now Caroline, 62, whose clients include Bear Grylls, tells me they are an item, adding: 'It's very early days. There's a long way to go on these things.'

As the future Duchess of Roxburghe, Annie Green is about to be handed the keys to the 200-room Floors Castle.

But spare a thought for former chatelaine Virginia Wynn-Williams, who I hear now finds herself living in a humble rented cottage in Wiltshire – having vacated the stately home in Scotland after her husband’s death.

Virginia was married to the 10th Duke, Guy Innes-Ker, until his death in 2019, but now her stepson Charlie Bowmont is about to marry and take over the castle.

Life can be cruel for widows in toffland!
