The Fisher of Men mission sees the game's protagonist Arthur Morgan being asked by Abigail to do something with her son Jack because he is lonely from the group moving around so much. After accepting, Arthur takes Jack fishing, which also serves as a tutorial to introduce players to Red Dead Redemption 2's fishing mechanics. After fishing for a short while the two are interrupted by two Pinkertons who are trying to bring Arthur's group in for various crimes they have committed.
In a recent post to the game's subreddit, Reddit user drago0_ posted a variant of the mission's starting cutscene that they found. The variant occurs when players talk to Abigail to begin the mission at night and adds a scene to the end of the cutscene where Arthur says that he will take Jack in the morning before going to bed to sleep for the night. While the variant does not add very much to the cutscene, it is another example of the impressive amount of small details hidden throughout Red Dead Redemption 2.
The comments of the post also point out a variety of other quests with similar variant cutscenes. Missions like A Fine Night of Debauchery and The Sheep and The Goats also feature small cutscene additions that activate if a player starts them at a time other than when the mission was intended to be played. Other commentators also point out that the cutscene is changed slightly because of Arthur's low honor in it, causing Abigail to tell him that she wants him to take Jack because he always does what he says he will. Honor can cause a lot of changes in Red Dead Redemption 2, and the subtle line switch is another good catch by fans.
It is always interesting to see the small details that Red Dead Redemption 2 has hidden for players to discover across multiple playthroughs. Red Dead Redemption 2 is renowned for how detailed of a game it is, and there are surely even more small things for players to find as they continue to play it and share notes with one another. Hopefully, the game's developer Rockstar Games is able to put just as much detail for its fans in its next game as well.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One.

The missing detail can be found in the Mexico levels of the original Red Dead Redemption, which many consider to be a standout portion of the game. Eventually, John Marston will find himself in a poker game, sitting down with Ricketts and Muller. While things start off normally, they quickly turn hostile, with Muller getting frustrated with John and claiming that he has cheated. This results in a Mexican Standoff, with John and Muller eventually agreeing to a one-on-one duel.
Duels in Red Dead Redemption are much like the ones that took place in real life, as they saw both opponents standing across from each other. Testing a player’s patience and reaction time, the setup is a good bit different from the usual shooting that takes place in the series. While some gamers do struggle with the concept, most will have no issue making it through the first duel with Muller. Not only does Ricketts provide an explanation of what to do, but the fight is intentionally easy. However, Redditor ShadowyPepper found that their version of John was not equipped for a fight.
Posting a screenshot to the Red Dead Redemption 2 subreddit, the player shows that their holster is empty. While John Marston’s aim may be solid, even the best gunslinger would not be able to overcome those odds, as Muller would gun down a defenseless John with ease. Unsurprisingly, this led to a lot of entertaining comments, with Redditors joking that John could just use some finger guns instead. While it would be great to see this play out, the missing handgun was definitely not intentional.
The normal version of the duel does feature a revolver in John’s holster, so it seems like ShadowyPepper was just suffering from a small visual bug. Regardless, there is a lot of fun to be had with this inconsistency, as the glitch is funny as opposed to game breaking. When looking at the photo, it is hard not to think about the Red Dead Redemption protagonist reaching for his gun but finding nothing there, as it would have ensured that John met his end a bit sooner than he was meant to.
With some recent Red Dead Redemption 2 bugs leading to some funny scenarios as well, it is clear that the silly glitches are not only limited to the original title. Whether they are playing the 2010 game or its 2019 follow-up, fans of the series always manage to stumble across some strange moments.
Red Dead Redemption is available now on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
