What did Bill Hutchinson do?

Bill Hutchinson, a prominent Dallas-area developer who stars in the reality TV show “Marrying Millions,” has been charged in Orange County with rape and sexual assault involving two teenage girls, the district attorney said Friday. Robert Downey Sr., a filmmaker and writer who played a major role in New York's experimental film scene, died Wednesday in his home from complications due to Parkinson's disease. He was 85.

"Last night, dad passed peacefully in his sleep after years of enduring the ravages of Parkinson's..he was a true maverick filmmaker, and remained remarkably optimistic throughout," his son, Robert Downey Jr., wrote on Thursday in an Instagram post.

Downey Sr.'s absurdist style and irreverent sensibilities came to define his movies and plays, balancing anti-establishment sentiments with a playful sense of experimentation that brought on a truly singular era of American cinema.

Downey's breakout film, Putney Swope, is a satirical comedy about a Black advertising executive who is accidentally appointed chairman of a powerful advertising firm. The movie skewers the way race and power function in corporate America at a time when both were subject to increased awareness.

Paul Thomas Anderson talks with Robert Downey Sr. about his film career, and Putney Swope.

"This is the era of advertising becoming a completely pervasive and never-changing facet of American life," film critic Bilge Ebiri told NPR. "He's recognizing that advertising speaks to all sorts of things in the American subconscious."

Downey wasn't afraid to defy conventions in other ways as well. In another one of his films, 1968's No More Excuses, Downey plays a confederate soldier lost in time. To shoot one scene from the film, Downey wandered into the middle of an actual live baseball game — without permission — and in character, told a player he was looking for the "yankees." He wound up in jail for the stunt.

"When we think about underground cinema, experimental cinema, we sometimes mistakenly have this notion that it's all heavily symbolic, incredibly art-y, filled with deep meanings — and somehow you need a PhD to understand all this stuff," Ebiri explains. "If I had to compare his movies to anything today, I would say they resemble comedy sketches, or even YouTube videos."

In that way, Ebiri argues, it might be most accurate to consider someone like Eric Andre his contemporary.

Robert Downey Sr. gave his son, Robert Downey Jr., his first-ever role in the 1970 drama Pound, a movie about dogs, played by human actors, who are waiting to be euthanized at the pound.

In a 2003 interview with Fresh Air, Downey Jr. reflected on his father's artistic legacy. "He was very much revered and hailed [as] this just, you know, super innovative guy," he said. "I knew that my dad was something really, really, really special."

On the heels of a recent arrest following the alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl in Texas, Marry Millions star Bill Hutchinson is facing more allegations.

The 63-year-old real estate developer has now been hit with new charges from two 16-year-old girls in California, one of which claimed he 'raped' her while she was 'unconscious,' during an April vacation in Laguna Beach.

There is now an active arrest warrant for Hutchinson in Orange County, but his lawyer Dan Hagood called the teen's story 'fantastical,' and claim it was monetarily motivated, per TMZ.

Two 16-year-old girls claim that over the span of two Laguna Beach vacations with him in April, Hutchinson took advantage of them.

Prosecutors from the Orange County D.A.'s office say Bill raped one of the girls while she was unconscious and committed four acts of sexual battery against her.

When that female was said to have refused to return for a second vacation, he reportedly returned to his vacation home with the other girl where he allegedly committed sexual battery against her.

He now has been charged with 1 felony count of rape of an unconscious person, and 5 misdemeanor counts of sexual battery.

Texas mugshot: On Tuesday July 6, Bill was arrested in Texas for the assault of a 17-year-old girl in May who said the real estate developer molested her after she passed out on the couch at his home

If convicted he will face a maximum sentence of 8 years in state prison and 2.5 years in Orange County jail.

His legal team say that they will fight the charges in court, and they additionally claim that the alleged victim's story is motivated by greed as he boasts a multi-million dollar fortune.

On Tuesday July 6, Hutchinson was arrested in Texas for reportedly molesting a 17-year-old girl who was passed out on the couch at his home in Highland Park in May.

She said he plied her with alcohol and marijuana and in the morning she woke up in a daze to find him sexually assaulting her. That victim also claimed he gave both substances to a number of other younger women.

Bill's camp claim the 17-year-old is the same accuser as one of the Laguna Beach accusers, and called the story 'fantastical' as she would have been assaulted twice while unconscious in the span of consecutive months.

Younger women: Bill - who got engaged to Brianna 'Bri' Ramirez (R, pictured May 15) during season two of the Lifetime show has now been hit with assault charges from three teens in two different states

Following his Texas arrest, he was released on $30K bond and will not face charges for assaulting a minor because the age of consent is 17 in Texas.

Prior to the California charges Bill had also maintained his innocence.

'Anyone who knows me in this city knows that I am not capable of assault, sexual or otherwise,' he said, according to the Morning News.

Bill shot to fame on the Lifetime show Marrying Millions, which chronicled his relationship with Brianna 'Bri' Ramirez — a hostess at a Dallas restaurant who he met when she was 21.

They got engaged on season two of the show and his now 23-year-old fiancée gushed as recently as April 14: 'Thank you for being there for me when life takes unexpected turns. Thank you for giving me a chance to regroup.'

On June 11, his commercial real estate investment firm, Dunhill Partners, announced that Andy Crosland would take over as president of his real estate company with Hutchinson remaining on as chairman of the board.

'I am happy to pass the torch to Andy, who is a born leader with the talent to back it up,' the Southern Methodist University grad said in a statement.

'He and I have talked about making this move for the past couple of years, and now is the perfect time.'

'Marrying Millions' star Bill Hutchinson charged with raping unconscious teen at Laguna Beach vacation home

FOX 11 Los Angeles 09 July, 2021 - 05:26pm

Reality TV star and prominent Dallas real estate developer Bill Hutchinson has been charged with raping an unconscious teenager while vacationing in Laguna Beach.

Hutchinson, 63, is accused of sexually assaulting two 16-year-old girls who were vacationing with him, according to the Orange County DA’s office.

Hutchinson is accused of bringing the two 16-year-old girls on vacation to his Laguna Beach home on two different occasions in April. According to the DA’s office, he is accused of raping one of the girls while she was unconscious and committing four acts of sexual battery against her. When the victim decided not to return to Laguna Beach, Hutchinson then returned to his vacation home with another 16-year-old girl at the end of May and committing sexual battery against her.

The Orange County DA filed their charges a day after authorities in Texas filed a felony sexual assault charge against him involving a 16-year-old girl in his Dallas-area home.

Meanwhile, a lawsuit seeking over $1 million in damages from another alleged victim was filed in Dallas County on Friday against Hutchinson, his company Dunhill Partners and Virgin Hotels Dallas.

Hutchinson was arrested earlier this week in Highland Park, Texas. An Orange County arrest warrant has been issued for him.

CBS Los Angeles 09 July, 2021 - 12:33pm

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — A reality show star from Texas was charged on Friday with sexually assaulting two 16-year-old girls at his Laguna Beach vacation home.

63-year-old real estate developer William “Bill” Hutchinson, the suspect, stars in Lifetime’s “Marrying Millions.”

He was allegedly on vacation with the girls at the time and is accused of molesting one of them while she slept.

The Highland Park, Texas man was charged with a felony count of rape of an unconscious person and five misdemeanor counts of sexual battery, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Hutchinson was also charged with sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in his Dallas-area home in Texas, the District Attorney’s Office said.

It’s unclear if the Texas case involves one of the same accusers from the Orange County allegations.

Hutchinson turned himself in to Texas authorities on Wednesday and was released on $30,000 bond there, prosecutors said.

In a statement released Thursday, Hutchinson denied the allegation.
