Is Deadpool part of the MCU?

Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool officially enters the MCU — for a Free Guy teaser with Korg. Deadpool meets Korg in their very own movie trailer reaction series. It's official: Deadpool, by way of Ryan Reynolds, has finally entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe. EW.comRyan Reynolds' Deadpool officially enters the MCU — for a 'Free Guy' teaser with Korg

The crossover comes by way of a promo for Free Guy, in which the Merc with the Mouth sets up his own online video channel to react to movie trailers. For the latest installment of this totally-fake-but-would-watch series, he brings on Korg from Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame to react to the Free Guy trailer.

It helps that Disney now owns 20th Century Studios (previously 20th Century Fox), the home of Deadpool and Free Guy, and that Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, who returns to his motion-capture role of Korg for the promo, also stars in Free Guy with Reynolds.

"This is the third FIRST TIME I've ever worked with Ryan [Reynolds]," Waititi tweeted in jest, referring to their collaborations on Green Lantern and Free Guy.

Free Guy, directed by Shawn Levy, stars Reynolds as Guy, a non-playable character (NPC) inside the world of a popular video game who becomes self-aware. When his non-programmed behavior attracts the attention of the game's coders, he has to defend his virtual home from being canceled by the game company's big boss (Waititi).

Jodie Comer also stars as Milly, a game coder who takes on the gunslinging avatar known as MolotovGirl inside the world of the game. Though, Korg mistakes her for Jodie Foster.

"I hope they don't fridge her," Deadpool exclaims, explaining to Korg that fridging is "the process of killing off or hurting a female character in order to motivate or torture the main character, also known as Deadpool 2. Thank you for asking."

A new Deadpool movie is officially being developed by Disney's Marvel Studios with screenwriters Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux of Bob's Burgers fame. So, who knows?! Maybe this promo will turn into a feature film.

On that note, here's Korg's official tips for getting into the MCU: "Have a dream, chase it, lose that dream, just sabotage all sorts of happiness in pursuit of that dream, climb up to the peaks of that mountain and when you get to the top, land at the bottom and realize you're never going to achieve that dream, and at that point check your emails. Maybe you'll get something from your agents saying Marvel wants to talk."

Deadpool Joins MCU in Free Guy Trailer Breakdown With Thor's Korg

ComicBook.com 13 July, 2021 - 06:40pm

Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool has just made his first official appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe -- in the most unexpected place possible. Ryan Reynolds suits up as Deadpool to promote his new movie Free Guy alongside his co-star (and Thor: Love and Thunder director) Taika Waititi, who reprises his own MCU role as Korg from Thor: Ragnarok. While this is, ostensibly, a meta-layered promotional ad for Reynolds and Waititi's new film, it's also a milestone in Marvel history, as Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool officially makes the transition from 20th Century Fox's old X-Men movie franchise into Marvel Studios' Avengers franchise.

The video was released by Ryan Reynolds himself, with the caption, "Two members of the MCYouTube react to the upcoming film #FreeGuy featuring Ryan Reynolds and Taika Waititi. Free Guy. In theaters and definitely NOT streaming on August 13th."

Just last month Reynolds teased fans with a photo hinting he was suiting up as Deadpool again -- now we know why.

You can watch Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool (with Taika Waititi's Korg) in the Free Guy trailer reaction video below.

Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool is the only actor/character/franchise confirmed to have been imported from Fox's X-Men franchise into the Marvel Studios universe. Early this year, Marvel's Kevin Feige confirmed that Deadpool 3 is in the works at Marvel Studios, with Ryan Reynolds writing and starring in the film.

"It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now," Feige told Collider.

So far, Reynolds is the only actor in the MCU to be getting an R-rated movie -- a distinction that not even the PG-13 Blade reboot will get to share in. According to Feige though, Deadpool 3 is still a ways off from happening.

"It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor," Feige pointed out. "We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life."

With Deadpool now officially in the MCU, fans are already hoping that Reynolds real-life buddy Hugh Jackman will show up in the MCU as Wolverine. A recent photo of Jackman and Feige together has only fueled those hopes.

Deadpool 3 is currently in development at Marvel Studios. Free Guy hits theaters on August 13th.

Deadpool Star Ryan Reynolds Reveals BTS Photos From New Video Featuring Marvel Character

ComicBook.com 13 July, 2021 - 06:40pm

Earlier today came a shocking reaction video for the upcoming 20th Century movie Free Guy with stars Ryan Reynolds and Taika Waititi appearing in-character as Deadpool and Korg, the roles they play in Marvel movies on the big screen. It marks the first time that Reynolds' Deadpool has crossed over with someone from the MCU and to celebrate the occasion the actor took to social media to show off some behind-the-scenes photos from the shoot (this video also explains a previous tease from Reynolds). In one selfie that Reynolds posted he included the caption "Me thinking about stealing another suit. Then realizing Disney owns Deadpool;" a follow-up added: "Then stealing it anyway." Check them out below!

This marks Reynolds' first time back in the Deadpool costume since 2018's Deadpool 2, which he also pokes fun at somewhat in the new video. If the choice of he and Waititi as their Marvel characters seems random, it's because both of them appear in Free Guy (a film that has been eagerly awaiting its release date after multiple COVID-19 delays). It's worth noting that these two also appeared in another movie together, 2011's Green Lantern, but a reaction video to that movie from these two characters from the House of Ideas seems....less likely. We can all dream though.

Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool is the only actor/character/franchise confirmed to have been imported from Fox's X-Men series of movies into Marvel Studios' ever expanding cinemaitc universe. Marvel head Kevin Feige previously confirmed that Deadpool 3 is in the works at Marvel Studios, with Ryan Reynolds returning. Bob's Burgers scribes Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin have been tapped to pen the script for the new film, stepping in for writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick who wrote the first two movies.

"It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now," Feige previouslytold Collider.

The third film starring Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth is so far the only film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe confirmed to be rated R, something that not even the PG-13 Blade reboot will get to share in apparently.

Reynolds returning to the film has some fans hoping that another X-alumnus, Hugh Jackman, will show up in the MCU as Wolverine. A recent photo of Jackman and Feige together has only fueled those hopes.

Deadpool 3 is currently in development at Marvel Studios. Free Guy hits theaters on August 13th.

Check Out Deadpool's First MCU Crossover (Sort Of)

IGN 13 July, 2021 - 06:15pm

Okay, so this isn't the official debut of Ryan Reynolds' Merc with a Mouth in the MCU, but Reynolds and Taika Waititi did appear as their Marvel characters together to promote the upcoming film Free Guy which features both actors.

The pair react to the trailer for Free Guy in-character which is not how I would have expected Deadpool to meet up with the MCU, but here we are. Check out the video below.

If you include Deadpool’s cocaine rider, this is the most expensive reaction video ever made. pic.twitter.com/XvhIQMtBfS

Free Guy is an upcoming film where Reynolds plays a video game NPC who develops free will. Waititi is in the film as well playing the main villain trying to thwart the newly sentient Reynolds.

Korg seems like a pretty random Marvel character to include in this promotion at first glance. But aside from having both Reynolds and Waititi in the movie, Free Guy is also one of the films Disney inherited after its acquisition of 20th Century Fox.

And now that both Reynolds and Waititi are under the House of Mouse's banner, what better way to promote Free Guy than by having them remind folks that they're also both part of the MCU too?

Deadpool will officially join the MCU eventually and it will be an R-rated film according to Marvel boss Kevin Feige. In the meantime we'll likely see Waititi's Korg first when he appears in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder, which Waititi is also directing.

Watch Deadpool Make First Official MCU Appearance in the Most Deadpool Way Possible (Video)

The newest look at the video game-themed action flick dropped on Reynolds’ YouTube channel Tuesday morning, except the trailer itself is not what’s new. It’s the same trailer that dropped last month, but with a twist. It’s actually a trailer reaction video featuring Reynolds and co-star Taika Waititi as their MCU alter-egos.

Yep, the video is just Deadpool and Korg (the rock monster from “Thor Ragnarok,” a film Waititi also directed) watching and reacting to the “Free Guy” trailer in Deadpool’s apartment.

In addition to a tongue-in-cheek parody of clickbait-y YouTube reactors (at one point Deadpool asks us to “smash that subscribe button”), the promo actually marks a major milestone in Marvel history. Deadpool previously only existed in 20th Century Fox’s old X-Men franchise but this union with Korg represents his official crossover into Disney’s Marvel universe.

Not long ago, Marvel character and franchise ownership rights were split between multiple studios, with Fox holding the X-Men and Sony possessing Spider-Man. As years and mega-deals have gone on, however, these characters have eventually passed hands to the House of Mouse thanks to Sony’s agreement to loan out Spider-Man starting in 2015 and the Fox-Disney merger in 2019.

Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool is the only character confirmed to have been imported from Fox’s X-Men franchise into the Marvel Studios universe as of now. Earlier this year, Marvel’s Kevin Feige confirmed that “Deadpool 3” is in the works at Marvel Studios, with Reynolds both writing and starring in the film. And yes, it will be R-rated just as the previous “Deadpool” films were.

“Free Guy” hits theaters August 13. Check out the “Deadpool and Korg React” trailer here.

Deadpool Fans Are Loving His MCU Debut

ComicBook.com 13 July, 2021 - 05:25pm

Deadpool is officially in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Well, kind of. Maybe. Tuesday morning, Ryan Reynolds' beloved "hero" appeared alongside an MCU character for the first time, and fans can't get enough of it. The video was a faux reaction video featuring Reynolds in costume as Deadpool, reviewing the trailer to 20th Century Studios' Free Guy. Then, out of nowhere, Korg — voiced by Taika Waititi — pops up and helps the Merc with a Mouth out with his YouTube presence. Both Reynolds and Waititi star in Free Guy, a Disney-owned film.

If the teaser is any indication, Deadpool 3 will be most certainly R-rated as the mutant's mouth throws all sorts of insults and curse words.

"It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now," Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige previously told Collider.

"It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor," the producer added. "We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life."
