Scarlet Nexus Anime Features 'Hidden Codes' For In-Game Rewards | Geek Culture

Geek Culture 24 June, 2021 - 06:05am

Scarlet Nexus officially launches today on console and while you’re trying to get on our guide for some tips to get started, here’s another piece of clue that might help you with your journey to save humanity.

In conjunction with the Scarlet Nexus anime, the JPRG will feature a “Hidden Code Quest” that rewards players with in-game items after they crack a series of secret codes. Left behind by a hidden character named Mimi, they can be found and deciphered by watching the 13-episode series, with one Hidden Code quest unlocking per episode. These passwords must then be given to Musubi in the game.

While we have no clue as to how these codes look like and what rewards they offer, this is an interesting way to engage the audience with both the game and anime medium. However, to participate, players must reach Phase 2 of the gameplay and have their game updated to the latest version.

The anime is set to release on 1 July 2021 on selected platforms in Japan. Fans in the Southeast Asia regions will be able to catch it on the Ani-One Asia YouTube channel, True Digital (Philippines), or meWATCH and Catchplay (Singapore).

Additionally, the official collaboration art drawn by artist Tamami Ishikawa was also revealed for the launch.

Scarlet Nexus is out on 24 June PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and 25 June on PC via Steam.

Scarlet Nexus: Should You Choose Yuito or Kasane?

GameRant 23 June, 2021 - 10:14pm

To start, it is important to mention that while Yuito and Kasane do have their own campaigns, they both focus on the same central story. This allows the two campaigns to function as complementing perspectives, which clarify and expand upon one another. As such, players that want a comprehensive understanding of Scarlet Nexus's story will ultimately need to play through the game as both protagonists, and either one is a perfectly suitable first pick.

With that said, fans that do not plan to complete the game twice will need to be a bit more careful with their selection, though it is difficult to offer a definitive recommendation on which protagonist has the better campaign. Indeed, Yuito's and Kasane's stories both have something to offer, and a case could be made for picking either one of them. Players that will stop at a single playthrough are thus advised to spend some time with the summaries of the Scarlet Nexus characters that are available in-game and simply choose the one that sounds most interesting.

To note, it takes around 20 hours to complete Scarlet Nexus once, which means that players can get through it with Yuito and Kasane in the neighborhood of 40 hours. This is not an extremely significant amount of time, especially when compared to some of the longest JRPGs, and it is difficult to recommend anything but finishing the game with both protagonists. Even still, hopefully players that are only able to commit to a single playthrough now have a better understanding of how to go about picking their character.

Scarlet Nexus releases on June 25 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

Scarlet Nexus Review Roundup: A Stylish Yet Flawed RPG

Screen Rant 23 June, 2021 - 05:34pm

Scarlet Nexus' release is imminent, and given that there's only a handful of titles releasing before the fall, there is likely a lot of pressure on the team to get it right, as it may be one of the few new games many people play this summer. Although it's not a massive release, the largely empty release window could prove useful to Bandai Namco if it does review well and word of mouth spreads, which is looking increasingly likely.

The reviews for Scarlet Nexus are in and it's being praised as a flawed but stylish action RPG that will likely woo a lot of people. For anyone impressed by the demo of Scarlet Nexus, the full game manages to deliver on its combat and general gameplay, but it does falter a bit in its story and other content. Still, the game is holding an average score of 80 on Metacritic, so the pros seem to be outweighing the cons in many instances. Without further ado, here's a roundup of what critics are saying about Scarlet Nexus.

Daniel Tack - Game Informer - 8.75/10

Jade King - The Gamer - 3.5/5

Dorrani Williams - VG24/7 - 3/5

Francesco De Meo - WCCFTech - 8.5/10

Scarlet Nexus is currently launching against Mario Golf: Super Rush, and although that's a Nintendo exclusive, it could still take attention away from the game and lead to people forgetting about it, as the marketing hasn't been super prominent. Either way, those who play it will likely enjoy it, and if enough people do, there might just be a future for Scarlet Nexus.
