The Snapchat app is broken

The Independent 28 June, 2021 - 12:57pm

Users say that the latest version of the app simply crashes rather than opening as expected, with no way to get around the problems.

Because the iPhone automatically downloads new updates, users might not wittingly have installed the latest version, and instead just find that the app does not open.

The company said that it was aware of the problems and looking to try and find a fix to solve it.

“We’re aware of an issue with the latest version of Snapchat available in the App Store,” the company wrote in a tweet. “Hang tight, we are looking into it and working on a fix!”

It gave no indication of how long that fix might take or when the update would be issued.

Snapchat includes a range of features – such as streaks, which reward people for talking every day – intended to keep people opening and using the app. As such, any outage that lasts more than 24 hours could easily lose people those streaks.

If the problems are with the software, as expected, then it is likely the fix will be the same, and users will need to require the latest update.

The problems appear to be with the update numbered 11.34.0.35, which was distributed therough the App Store over the weekend.

Updates are usually pushed out every week and many come without specific information on what they have fixed.

Snapchat is warning iPhone users that the version of the messaging app available in the App Store has a problem, and is something the company is trying to solve.

Snapchat last updated its iOS app in the App Store on June 28, with the version 11.34.0.35 update adding a number of "bug fixes" to the messaging tool. However, the maintenance release has gone wrong for some users.

A number of Snapchat users claim the app automatically crashes to the iPhone Home Screen whenever it is opened. It is unclear what is triggering the crash, but it occurs just after the camera feed becomes visible.

Snapchat's support teams posted to Twitter on Monday that it is "aware of the issue," warning users to "Hang tight, we are looking into it and working on a fix!"

While it is unknown exactly when the patch will be available in the App Store, given it has to pass through the App Store review process to do so, it is likely that the major app may be fast-tracked through the review itself. If so, the updated version could arrive fairly soon.

Fans of the Snapchat photo social network are finding that the recently updated app no longer works and it's causing quite the frustration. The problems began after users updated to version 11.34.0.35 of Snapchat, downloaded from the App Store.

For most people, it seems the issue is straightforward as WhatsApp crashing completely on launch, making the app impossible to use.

The good news is that Snapchat is aware of the issue and that it's working on finding a solution, although we don't know when that will be rolled out. It's possible it will need to work its way through the App Store, likely as an expedited review.

For now, anyone who hasn't updated to version 11.34.0.35 of Snapchat should probably hold off. The older version seems to be working just fine.

Things like this can happen to even the best iPhone apps, but it's always a wonder how it happens. These updates are tested before being rolled out to the App Store and users at large, after all.

Snapchat for iOS repeatedly crashing for many users, fix coming soon - 9to5Mac

9to5Mac 28 June, 2021 - 09:51am

Snapchat users have been widely reporting app crashes since installing the latest version of the app released through the App Store. The company acknowledged the issue with a post on Twitter today, promising that it is already working on the fix.

The influx of complaints correlates to the release of version 11.34.0.35 of the Snapchat application, which was pushed out less than one day ago. According to many users, the Snapchat application will immediately crash upon being opened, and no fix is currently available.

Snapchat acknowledged the issue in a post on Twitter this morning, saying that it is working on a fix that will be released to the App Store soon:

“We’re aware of an issue with the latest version of Snapchat available in the App Store. Hang tight, we are looking into it and working on a fix!

Snapchat generally releases new updates to the App Store on a weekly basis, many of them focused simply on bug fixes and performance improvements. We should expect an update to come sooner than next week, however, with a fix for this crashing issue.

Snapchat users on Twitter are very frustrated with this bug, primarily due to the app’s focus on maintaining daily “streaks” of sending Snapchats to people. If the app crash lasts longer than 24 hours, it could cause Snapchat users to lose their streaks entirely.

In the meantime, users should avoid installing version 11.34.0.35 of the Snapchat app, if they haven’t already, and be on the lookout for a newer release to hit the App Store. We’ll be sure to update this story once Snapchat has rolled out an update, but unfortunately there is no timetable.

Have you experienced any issues recently with the Snapchat for iOS app? Have you discovered any workarounds for the crash? Let us know down in the comments!
