Kazuya Mishima of the Tekken series is the next DLC fighter to join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but what time will the new character be released? Super Smash Bros. Ultimate already has a handful of fighting game representatives such as Ryu, Ken, and Terry, so Kazuya should fit right into the massive 80 character roster. Like most Challenger Packs, the Kazuya DLC will include a new stage based on Mishima Dojo and several new music tracks. Here’s when you can download Kazuya for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Kazuya will be released at 6 PM PT/9 PM ET on Tuesday, June 29, 2021. Nintendo has not officially announced the exact release time for the next DLC fighter, but historically, DLC characters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate have released at that time. Here are the release times for different time zones:

At the listed times, the update will become available for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It may not download automatically, so press the + button on the Nintendo Switch home screen while hovering over Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and select “Check for Update” to force the system to start the download. This will download the entire version 12.0.0 update, which includes Kazuya, a new stage, several music tracks, and a wide array of balance adjustments.

Version 12.0.0 is the latest patch for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. This update will be released alongside Kazuya, and players will need to install the update in order to add the new character to the game. Outside of Kazuya, this update also unlocks the new Mishima Dojo stage and adds a ton of music tracks from the Tekken series, some of which are original remixes. Also, this patch will nerf and buffs some characters, although the fighter adjustments won’t be known until the update actually comes out and Nintendo releases patch notes. Here’s what you can expect from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate version 12.0.0.

Version 12.0.0 will roll out at the same time as Kazuya, so fans can expect to see the update go live at 6 PM PT/9 PM ET. Again, the patch won’t start downloading automatically once it’s released. Instead, players should press the + button and select “Check for Update” to force their Nintendo Switch to download the update once it’s out.

All New Mii Fighters Added To Smash Bros. With Kazuya

Screen Rant 29 June, 2021 - 09:44pm

The #10 costumes are Lloyd from Tales of Symphonia, the Dragonborn from Skyrim, Dante from Devil May Cry, and Shantae's titular character. Three of these new additions are sword fighters; only Shantae is a brawler. No new Mii gunners were added to the roster. Dante and Shantae were both highly desired picks for full-fledged fighters within the Smash community, whereas Lloyd was a genuine surprise. Skyrim is a massively popular game, so its inclusion in Smash was arguably inevitable.

The four new Mii fighters are launching alongside the new Smash fighter, Tekken's Kazuya Mishima. The franchises represented by the new Mii fighter announcement all have a game represented on the Switch, and many have more than one. So, it's worth digging into their respective backgrounds.

Dante is the main playable character of Capcom's seminal hack-and-slash series, Devil May CryThe franchise originally began production as a Resident Evil game, but has blossomed into its own beloved series, where Dante hunts demons who threaten Earth's safety. There are five Devil May Cry games, but only the first three are on the Switch.

Shantae is a half-genie and titular character who protects her homeland, Sequin Land, from threats like her nemesis, the pirate Risky Boots. Shantae is a series of platformers from WayForward which, like Tales of Symphonia and Devil May Cry, began in the early 2000s. All five Shantae games are available on the Nintendo eShop, the most recent of which is the delightful Shantae and the Seven Sirens.

The Dragonborn hails from Bethesda's open-world fantasy phenomenon Skyrim. Dragonborn are central to Skyrim's plot and supplied the name for the game's final DLC. Dragonborn have a mortal's body, but the blood and soul of a Dragon. Dragons themselves are nearly extinct, and the player character is revealed to be the Last Dragonborn. Skyrim has been ported to the Switch, which may be why it's been added to Smash Bros.

With these four Mii Fighters now announced, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has only one more DLC up its sleeve. While Shantae and Dante may be particular disappointments for many in the Smash community, since this means they likely won't become fighters themselves, there is just a tiny opening left for legions of beloved characters to squish through. It's arguably better for these four to be Mii Fighters than not in the game at all. These Mii Fighters release alongside Kazuya on June 29, 2021.

Smash Ultimate: Why There Probably Won’t Be a Fighters Pass Vol. 3

Screen Rant 29 June, 2021 - 09:44pm

Sakurai has intimated before that the DLC would stop with the second Fighters Pass, but speculation still spread. So his parting words in "Mr. Sakurai Presents: Kazuya" were reflective and unmistakably firm: "Up until now, we've created all sorts of fighters and stages. Gathering all these games, new and old, and compiling them into a single product is a task that has meant a lot to me. Now that I think about it, it's been close to 10 years since Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS systems was in development. I've been working on this for a long time. You could call it my life's work. But finally, the next DLC fighter will be the last one. There won't be any more after that."

Sakurai, who is 50 years old, said in May that though he's expressed interest in early retirement and he's ending his Famitsu column after 18 years, he's not leaving the gaming industry entirely, and he appears instead to be gearing up for a new phase of his career. Sakurai has been known to work on games to the point of exhaustion, and fans were concerned after he collapsed in a gym in March 2020. The man clearly deserves a break.

Outside of potentially finding a new director for the series, there could be other reasons Ultimate is ceasing its DLC releases. Ultimate will be three years old in December 2021, and the release gap between the Wii U / 3DS version and Ultimate was four years. Granted, waits for a new Smash game have been as long as seven years, but one wonders if Nintendo might be shifting their attention towards developing new games for a new system, especially since Switch Pro release rumors are still running wild.

The end of DLC for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a sad occasion, and the potential semi-retirement of Masahiro Sakurai is even sadder, but there is also a lot to be excited about concerning future Nintendo releases, including Breath of the Wild 2Pokémon Legends: ArceusMetroid Prime 4, and even the Switch Pro. The best Smash fans can do is give Sakurai a proper send-off.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai has detailed Mii Fighter Costumes Round 10; featuring Shantae, Dante, the Dragonborn from Skyrim, and Lloyd Irving.

As with past videos hosted by Sakurai, the next DLC character’s release date and moves were detailed- in this case Kazuya Mishima from Tekken. These presentations also come with the announcement of the next Mii Fighter costume pack that launches alongside the DLC character.

Some fans dread who will be included, with the wide-spread assumption that those added as a costume will not be appearing as a full fledged fighter. Sakurai also notes that these were all highly requested characters. Nonetheless, this did not stop many for being excited for the costume of Sans from Undertale

The Mii Fighter Costume Round 10 pack includes Lloyd Irving (Tales of Symphonia, Mii Swordfighter), the Dragonborn (Skyrim, Swordfighter), Dante (Devil May Cry, Swordfighter), and Shantae (Shantae, Brawler). The later also includes Burning Town as a bonus music track from Shantae: Half-Genie Hero.

You can find the entire Mr. Sakurai Presents Kazuya video here, and the Mii Fighter Costumes #10 trailer below.

Kazuya Mishima and Mii Fighter Costumes Round 10 launch June 29th, and will also be part of the Fighters Pass Vol. 2. Each Mii Fighter Costume is also available separately for $0.75 USD each.

Other Fighters Pass Vol. 2 DLC characters have included Min Min from ARMSSteve from Minecraft, Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, and Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. This also marks Kazuya as the 10th Challenger Pack character, and second to last DLC character. Fighters Pass Vol. 2 is also the last DLC characters to be added for the game.
