WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels sees himself in NXT star Carmelo Hayes

GIVEMESPORT 14 October, 2021 - 05:43am

Carmelo Hayes is getting a big push in WWE

The NXT star has been crowned the new WWE North American Champion after defeating Isiah 'Swerve' Scott in a huge shock.

Hayes, of course, had won the chance to challenge any champion in NXT by winning the Breakout Tournament.

And after Scott beat long-time rival Santos Escobar, Hayes came down to the ring to help the champ fight off both Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza.

However, he turned on Scott, and laid him out with a clothesline before deciding to challenge him to a title match there and then.

It was a very similar move to cashing in the Money In The Bank contract, when wrestlers can call their shot whenever they want, and Hayes was crowned champion.

It is the first time that Hayes has won a championship in WWE since signing for the company in February 2021, and it made sense too, with Scott and the rest of Hit Row called up to SmackDown in the recent WWE draft.

And Fightful Select has now shared some big news on exactly why the switch happened, revealing that Shawn Michaels, who works backstage on NXT, "sees himself" in the new North American champion.

That makes sense, too, given that Hayes posted a picture of himself on Twitter after the match, with the belt around his waist and Shawn Michaels giving him a big hug.

Fightful have reported that Hayes has been turning heads in the WWE Performance Center, particularly HBK, and that he is being groomed as a top star of the future.

"Carmelo Hayes has impressed some people of influence within NXT and the Performance Center. We're told by WWE Performance Center sources that Carmelo Hayes specifically caught the eye of Shawn Michaels, and was viewed as a "project" of his by many. Hayes had already impressed many, but a match with Kushida in early June opened up a lot of opportunities for him, including the follow-up match with Adam Cole. Another high level NXT source said that they believe Shawn Michaels sees a lot of himself in Carmelo Hayes, which seems to be backed up by Shawn Michaels taking a celebratory photo with Hayes following his NXT North American Title victory."

Explaining Scott's loss, Fightful also reports that the way the match was booked was designed to protect him ahead of his run on the main roster.

New WWE NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes says he’s about make the title the A Championship of the brand.

As noted, last night’s NXT 2.0 main event saw Isaiah “Swerve” Scott make his first successful title defense since winning the title back in June, retaining over Santos Escobar. Hayes and Trick Williams had came out during the match to help fight off Legado del Fantasma as Hit Row was taken out earlier in the day by Escobar, Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde. After celebrating with Swerve following the main event, Hayes suddenly attacked the champ and then cashed in his Breakout Tournament contract he won earlier in the summer. Hayes and Swerve went at it for a few minutes before Hayes picked up the win to capture the strap.

Hayes took to Twitter after the win and made a bold statement.

“I’m about to turn this into the A Championship. I said what I said,” he wrote.

Hayes took to Twitter today and posted a backstage photo with WWE Hall of Famer and NXT Producer Shawn Michaels, a role usually reserved for Triple H. This could be a sign Triple H has not returned to work from his recent heart surgery.

“Goated [goat emoji x 2],” Hayes wrote with the HBK photo, seen below.

Michaels also tweeted on Hayes’ big title win and wrote, “The cross section of opportunity and preparation… SUCCESS! Congratulations to the NEW #NXTNATitle champion… @Carmelo_WWE! #WWENXT”

There’s no word on who Hayes’ first challenger will be or if he will defend at the NXT Halloween Havoc special on October 26.

The Usos' brother debuts on WWE NXT under new name

GIVEMESPORT 13 October, 2021 - 06:23am

The Usos brother has debuted for WWE, but it seems like he won't be linked to his older siblings in any capacity.

Joseph Fatu, who is the real-life brother of Jimmy and Jey Uso, debuted on last night's episode of WWE NXT 2.0 after signing with the company in August 2021.

A short vignette aired to promote Fatu's official debut with Triple H's brand, with it being revealed that the 28-year-old will now be going by the name Solo Sikoa.

In the video package, which you can check out below, Solo Sikoa said that he was "left to fight alone" as a teenager, saying:

“You won’t find my wins and losses in any record books, those live on the streets. I was left to fight alone when I was 15 years old, and that’s when I became Solo Sikoa. Street Champion, of the Island.”

With Roman Reigns & The Usos' gimmicks being all about their family, many thought that Joseph Fatu would be immediately brought to the main roster as the third Uso, but that hasn't happened.

Not only that, but it seems like WWE won't even be acknowledging that Solo Sikoa is related to The Usos on WWE NXT, but that could always be added at a later date.

This definitely isn't uncommon for WWE, with it never being overtly mentioned on NXT TV that Bron Breakker is the real-life son of Rick Steiner.
