Ranaut posted a tweet on Monday in which she urged Modi to resort to gangster tactics to “tame” West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, whose regional party defeated Modi’s Hindu nationalists in elections over the weekend to retain control of the state government.

Following the election, Banerjee’s party was accused of violent attacks on its defeated opponents, which it denies.

In her tweet, Ranaut called Banerjee an “unleashed monster” and urged Modi to “tame her”.

“We need super gundai (hooliganism in Hindi) to kill gundai… Modi ji (a honorific) please show your Virat roop (larger-than-life form) from the early 2000s,” she posted, an apparent reference to 2002 Gujarat riots that took place when Modi was the state chief minister.

Confirming on Tuesday that Ranaut’s account had been suspended, Twitter explained its policy.

“We have been clear that we will take strong enforcement action on behaviour that has the potential to lead to offline harm.

“The referenced account has been permanently suspended for repeated violations of Twitter Rules specifically our Hateful Conduct policy and Abusive Behaviour policy.”

Ranaut, a winner of several national film awards, railed against Twitter’s action in a statement.

“Twitter has only proved my point. They are Americans, and by birth a white person feels entitled to enslave a brown person,” she said.

“They want to tell you what to think, speak or do, fortunately I have many platforms I can use to raise my voice, including my own art in the form of cinema but my heart goes out to the people of this nation who have been tortured, enslaved and censored for thousands of years and still their is no end to the suffering.”

Twitter Permanently Suspends Kangana Ranaut’s Account For Violating Its ‘Hateful Conduct Policy’

Outlook India 04 May, 2021 - 09:00am

Twitter has permanently suspended Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut’s account for repeated violation of its rules.

While it is not clear, which specific tweet landed the actress in trouble, many have speculated that Ranaut’s tweet asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi to “tame” TMC chief Mamata Banerjee might have resulted in her account getting suspended.

“This is horrible…we need super gundai to kill gundai...she (Mamata) is like an unleashed monster, to tame her Modiji please show your Viraat roop from early 2000’s,” Ranaut had reportedly tweeted soon after the West Bengal elections were declared.

Her tweet had received massive backlash with celebrities, politicians and others accusing her of stoking communal tension.

Stating that Ranaut has repeatedly violated Twitter’s "Hateful Conduct and Abusive Behaviour policy”, the microblogging platform said it has permanently suspended her account.

The 34-year-old actor’s handle @KanganaTeam now displays the message: account suspended.

Ranaut, known for her often inflammatory tweets, posted several messages following the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress’ win over the BJP in West Bengal and incidents of post-poll violence. Calling for President’s Rule in the state, she also blamed Banerjee for the violence and called her unpublishable names.

"We’ve been clear that we will take strong enforcement action on behaviour that has the potential to lead to offline harm,” a Twitter spokesperson said in a statement.

"The referenced account has been permanently suspended for repeated violations of Twitter Rules specifically our Hateful Conduct policy and Abusive Behaviour policy. We enforce the Twitter Rules judiciously and impartially for everyone on our service," the spokesperson added.

Meanwhile, responding to the news, Ranaut reportedly said that she will continue to voice her opinions on other social media platforms.

According to Twitter's Abusive Behaviour policy, "one may not engage in the targeted harassment of someone, or incite other people to do so or attempt to harass, intimidate, or silence someone else’s voice".

When an account is suspended permanently, the account holder is notified about the rules they have violated, the social media platform said citing the policy.

On Monday, writer-lyricist Hussain Haidry had shared two tweets of the actor and urged people to report the account.

“If you are a blue tick account or with large following, I am not asking you to speak up against this. But please just quietly REPORT these two tweets. This is calling for mass violence. And directing it at Muslims,” he wrote.

Many social media users have called Ranaut out for spreading hatred.

The actor also posted a video on Instagram where she termed the silence of the liberal international media on Bengal violence their "conspiracy against India". Ranaut is also active on Facebook.

Last year, Ranaut's sister Rangoli's account was suspended on the microblogging website. The actor became active on Twitter after that.

Kangana Ranaut Permanently Removed From Twitter After Controversial Post

NDTV 04 May, 2021 - 09:00am

Kangana Ranaut's account violated policy on "hateful conduct, abusive behavior", Twitter said today.

Actor Kangana Ranaut's Twitter account has been permanently suspended after a controversial tweet related to the post-election result violence in Bengal. The account repeatedly violated Twitter policy on "hateful conduct and abusive behavior", the social media site said today.

The 34-year-old actor, unfazed, accused Twitter of race bias. "I have many platforms I can use to raise my voice, including my own art in the form of cinema," she told news agency ANI.

In the tweet that appears to have spurred this action, the actor seems to urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to "tame" Mamata Banerjee using his "Virat Roop" from "early 2000s" in Bengal. She was reacting to a tweet by journalist-BJP leader Swapan Dasgupta on the violence in Bengal since election results were announced on Sunday; Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress - which won a landslide victory - and the BJP have blamed each other for the clashes and arson.

Kangana Ranaut's tweet sparked outrage and calls for action against the strident actor, whose timeline is filled with vitriolic posts.

"We've been clear that we will take strong enforcement action on behavior that has the potential to lead to offline harm. The referenced account has been permanently suspended for repeated violations of Twitter Rules specifically our Hateful Conduct policy and Abusive Behaviour policy," a Twitter spokesperson said, adding that the rules were applied judiciously and impartially to all.

"As explained in our abusive behaviour policy, you may not engage in the targeted harassment of someone, or incite other people to do so. We consider abusive behavior an attempt to harass, intimidate, or silence someone else's voice."

Kangana Ranaut is notorious for her outrageous, no-filter posts on social media, many of which are provocative calls to action.

The actor also posted a rant on her Instagram account earlier today.

In the teary-eyed harangue, she talks about "disturbing news, videos and photos from Bengal of people being murdered, gang-raped and their houses being burnt". She also calls for President's Rule in the state, criticising a "government that I support" for not doing more than dharnas in response to the clashes.

Last year, Kangana Ranaut's sister Rangoli Chandel had provoked fury with a tweet blaming the Tablighi Jamaat for Covid spread.
