In a message posted Wednesday to Twitter, it said: “We have decided it is best to postpone the Closed Test for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Frontline. The development team is dedicated to creating the best experience possible.”
It added: “We’ll share details on the new date for the Closed Test as soon as we can. Thank you for your ongoing support.”
The delay follows fan backlash from the announcement of the game, which was revealed during a stream to commemorate 20 years of the Ghost Recon franchise.
The top comment, left by a user name ‘Damon’ accuses Ubisoft of “ignoring” its fanbase with Frontline’s new direction.
This comment alone has almost as many likes as the trailer itself. When searching ‘Ghost Recon Frontline” on YouTube, under the trailer are several videos criticising the title, with the title of YouTuber BigfryTV’s video asking “Is this a joke?”
Developed primarily by Ubisoft Bucharest, Ghost Recon Frontline is a battle royale game that sees groups of 4 players teaming up to face more than 100 players across a large map. The 8-minute trailer that was revealed on October 5th shows off players collecting loot and completing missions.
During the trailer, the team revealed “Expedition”, what they’re calling their “flagship mode”. This will see teams of three drop into the island and scavenge for intel. After collecting this intel, players must then make their way to an extraction point, and defend the intel until it’s been recovered.
