The Dallas Cowboys have had an absolutely brutal 24 hours. First, they lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFL season opener on a last-second field goal by Ryan Succop. Then, it was announced that wide receiver Michael Gallup will be out 3-5 weeks.
Now, Cowboys OT La’el Collins has been suspended for five games, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

This is a huge blow for the Cowboys and definitely not a good sign for Collins. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the suspension is for missing drug tests and failing to appear.
My understanding is La’El Collins was suspended for missing drug tests. Essentially, failure to appear. https://t.co/L4dL8GgRp3

This is a sticky situation for the Cowboys and now they are done a key piece of their offense for the next five weeks. The Cowboys already struggled to contain the Bucs defense in Week 1, and losing Collins will make it that much more difficult as they go forward.
What does bode well is the fact that the Cowboys have a rather easy schedule, on paper at least, going off of last year’s results. In Week 2 they travel west and face a tough Los Angeles Chargers team at SoFi Stadium, and finding a way to contain Derwin James and Joey Bosa will be an even tougher task without Collins.
